Job summary

GraphAware is seeking a Tech Lead, Backend - GraphAware Hume-based in the Netherlands. You will shape backend architecture for a graph-powered analytics product, driving technical direction across teams, and leading secure, scalable APIs and services built around graph data.

You will test new graph technologies, optimize Cypher queries, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Product Managers to translate product goals into durable roadmaps. Remote-friendly with strong autonomy.

Qualifications

• 8+ years backend engineering experience with large-scale applications.
• Deep hands-on Neo4j expertise including Cypher optimization.
• Strong graph data modeling skills with nodes, relationships and properties.
• Proven technical leadership focused on architecture and direction.
• Strong Java/JVM skills and experience with Spring framework.
• Experience designing secure, scalable APIs and services.
• Proficient in CI/CD and cloud-native practices (Docker, automation).
• Ability to influence without formal authority and drive architectural consensus.
• Good communication for distributed teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Drive platform architecture and technical direction across the engineering organization.
• Own graph technology strategy and evaluate new releases and tooling.
• Optimize graph performance through data modeling, queries, and architecture.
• Lead backend initiatives to build secure, modular APIs and services.
• Design secure access-control systems for mission-critical environments.
• Orchestrate graph-powered workflows for analytics and real-time insights.
• Collaborate with product managers to translate product goals into roadmaps.
• Provide hands-on development and contribute to delivery with modern practices.
• Communicate trade-offs and risks to cross-functional teams.
• Mentor engineers and raise standards without formal management.
