Job Description

ECU Department of Student Rights and Responsibilities is currently seeking a Program Assistant.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The Division of Student Affairs comprises over 30 departments, each responsible for providing various student support, services, and educational programs accessible to the university community. With over 300 full-time employees and over 1200 student workers, the Division supports Pirate success through environments that enhance student development, engagement, belonging, well-being, and career readiness. Primary Purpose of the Position

The Program Assistant has administrative responsibility for assisting with monitoring the policies and procedures of the University Regulation on Academic Integrity and the Student Conduct Process. The Program Assistant will aid the Case Manager and Associate Director in the Academic Integrity process, scheduling of Academic Integrity appeals, Academic Integrity and Student Conduct Board Hearings, and aiding the Case Manager in Direct Referrals. The Program Assistant will also help OSRR with general administrative tasks, including answering phones, taking notes, and other administrative duties as assigned. The Program Assistant will report to the Associate Director for Student Rights & Responsibilities. The Program Assistant will work 20 hours per week.

Specific Responsibilities:

The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities oversees the administration and supervision of the University student conduct system and the University Regulation on Academic Integrity with the authority to formulate and carry out institutional policy. To that end, the Program Assistant:

Academic Integrity (50%)
  • Reviews Academic Integrity reports as they are submitted to OSRR
  • Communicates with faculty regarding reports and Academic Integrity concerns
  • Communicates with students and faculty about the Academic Integrity process
  • Coordinates with Case Manager regarding Academic Integrity appeals
  • Assists Case Manager in scheduling Academic Integrity Boards
  • Communicates with the Registrar regarding grade changes and course reinstatements
  • Assists with the evaluation and management of petitions to remove XFs
Case Management (30%)
  • Assists with academic integrity, individual, and organizational misconduct investigations
  • Assists Assistant Director of Operations in scheduling Conduct Boards
  • Assists with processing Direct Referrals and parental notification letters
  • Manages educational workshops in conjunction with campus partners
  • Documents Academic Integrity and Direct Referral cases through Maxient, including adding relevant documents, case notes, issuing letters and other communications, manages sanctions and processes case resolutions
  • Tracks and documents student cases, sanction completion status, manages appeals schedules, and ensures all cases are complete and ready for review or resolution
Administrative Tasks (20%)
  • Takes student, parent, and attorney phone calls related to Academic Integrity and Conduct cases and directs calls to the appropriate staff member
  • Assists with the management of the front office
  • Manages walk-ins and student appointments
  • Other administrative duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, education, social work, counseling, or a related field
  • Enrolled in a graduate degree program at East Carolina University
  • An understanding of student behavior and relevant university policies, including the University Regulation on Academic Integrity and Student Code of Conduct.

GPA Requirement Minimum of 3.0

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to build positive and effective relationships across the campus and community.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage multiple competing priorities, and provide exemplary customer service.
