Job summary

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam’s CNCR Complex Traits Genetics group seeks a Scientific Programmer to contribute to FUMA, a widely used GWAS interpretation web tool. You will help develop and maintain analysis modules and visualizations, integrating large biological datasets and keeping reproducible workflows in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or R.
  • Experience with Git version control.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement existing and new analysis modules and visualizations within FUMA, including integration of statistical pipelines.
  • Integrate large-scale biological reference datasets for FUMA (molecular QTLs, chromatin interaction, functional annotation, single-cell data).
  • Maintain and improve production infrastructure (dependencies, databases, Linux servers, job scheduling, storage, pipelines).
  • Optimize performance, scalability, and reliability of the web platform and backend pipelines.
  • Ensure reproducible workflows for preprocessing, harmonizing, and updating datasets.
  • Resolve bugs, improve code quality, modernize components as needed.
  • Provide user support to researchers worldwide.
