Job summary

MRC Holland in Amsterdam is seeking a driven Product Developer - Oncogenetics to translate clinically relevant cancer biomarkers into robust diagnostic products. You will design and test (digital)MLPA assays to help labs gain deeper insights into cancer genomes.

You will collaborate with Research, QC, RA, Bioinformatics, Software, and QA to bring new assays from concept to market, write product documentation, and contribute to data analysis and regulatory processes.

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Genetics, Cancer Biology, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the field, preferably hands-on with NGS/arrayCGH/molecular genetics.
  • Strong background in cancer (epi)genetics and/or human genetics.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, evaluating, and optimizing (digital)MLPA probes and assays.
  • Conducting literature reviews and database research to support product development.
  • Performing experiments, quality testing, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Processing, interpreting, and documenting experimental results.
  • Conducting and supporting internal and external validation studies and proof-of-concept studies.
  • Writing product documentation, instructions for use (IFUs), and scientific content.
  • Contributing to the development and validation of software tools for (digital)MLPA data analysis.
  • Contributing to quality assurance processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Sharing expertise by supporting and training colleagues and trainees.

At MRC Holland in Oncogenetics team, we develop molecular diagnostic assays that help laboratories worldwide to characterize tumours, support cancer diagnosis, and identify clinically relevant alterations in genes associated with hereditary cancer. Our products enable healthcare professionals and researchers to better understand tumour biology and contribute to more informed treatment decisions for cancer patients.

MRC Holland is a young and dynamic biotechnology company located in the Amsterdam Baarsjes. MRC Holland is the inventor of Multiplex Ligation-dependent Probe Amplification (MLPA®) technology; a sensitive method for the detection of copy number and methylation changes in genes. MLPA is used in thousands of laboratories worldwide and has many applications, such as diagnosis of hereditary diseases, newborn screening, carrier screening, tumour characterisation and methylation analysis for imprinting diseases.

Key areas of responsibilities

As Product Developer - Oncogenetics, you will work on translating clinically relevant biomarkers in cancer into robust diagnostic products. You will be involved in the design and testing of (digital)MLPA assays that help laboratories gain deeper insights into cancer genomes. Through your work, you will help ensure that laboratories around the world have access to reliable tools for cancer characterization, diagnosis, prognostic assessment, and treatment selection.

You will collaborate closely with other colleagues from Research, QC, RA, Bioinformatics, Software development, and Quality Assurance to bring new (digital)MLPA assays from concept to market.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Designing, evaluating, and optimizing (digital)MLPA probes and assays
  • Conducting literature reviews and database research to support product development
  • Performing experiments, quality testing, data analysis, and troubleshooting
  • Processing, interpreting, and documenting experimental results
  • Conducting and supporting internal and external validation studies and proof-of-concept studies

Who are you?

You have a strong interest in cancer biology and molecular diagnostics. You enjoy staying at the forefront of developments in oncogenetics and are excited by the challenge of transforming cutting‑edge research into products that can benefit cancer patients worldwide. You are curious, analytical, and driven by scientific excellence. You enjoy solving complex problems, interpreting data, and translating scientific insights into practical solutions.

You have:

  • An MSc or PhD degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Genetics, Cancer Biology, or a related field
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in field, and preferably hands‑on experience with NGS/arrayCGH/molecular genetics
  • A strong background in cancer (epi)genetics and/or human genetics
  • A keen interest in precision oncology
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English, and communication skills (networking)

Starting salary: €4,025-€4,856 gross per month based on 40 hour‑contract. In addition, we have excellent employment conditions. At MRC Holland we have 28 holidays a year and are also closed between Christmas and New Year's Day. We have full reimbursement for travelling with public transport, an excellent pension scheme and extensive collective health insurance with reimbursement from MRC Holland. Finally, you will receive a reimbursement of max. €25 per month on your sports subscription, and you can participate in yoga classes or chair massage.
