Job description

fpga & electronics engineer — Maastricht Engineering Medior

Would you like to use FPGAs in systems that really make a difference? And do you enjoy working closely with electronics, sensors and hardware integration? If so, this could be your next step at DEMCON in Maastricht.

At DEMCON, we create technology that makes a difference both today and tomorrow. We develop technically complex high-tech, medical and industrial systems: from measurement and control systems and motion control to data acquisition, sensor technology and embedded platforms. FPGAs play a key role in this. You’ll be working on smart, reliable solutions that bring together electronics, FPGAs, software and mechanics. No two projects are the same, but one thing is certain: you’ll be working alongside colleagues who are just as passionate about technology as you are.

About Demcon

Each one of our companies differentiates itself in its own domain with unique expertise and skills. This way they help customers improve their performance and achieve more. On the basis of their passion for technology our companies are able to combine forces. By sharing knowledge and working together we increase our social impact. Demcon management & support is a developer and producer of technology and innovative products that contribute to solutions for technical and social problems.

What are you going to do?

As an FPGA engineer specialising in electronics design, you will develop and test FPGA solutions within embedded electronic systems. The main focus is on FPGA development, but you will also play an active role in addressing related electronics and hardware issues. You will contribute ideas on system architecture, translate functional requirements into robust FPGA and hardware solutions, and ensure that your design works reliably with sensors, actuators, interfaces, power supplies and other electronic components. In addition, you will undertake electronics-related tasks such as hardware design, component selection, schematic review, board bring-up, measurements, verification and the preparation of technical product documentation.

You’ll be given plenty of freedom to shape the substance of your work and to delve deeper into FPGA technology. This includes modern development and verification tools such as Vivado, Vitis, ModelSim, MATLAB HDL Coder and Python test benches with cocotb. Depending on the project, you may also gain experience with Vitis HLS, AI implementations on FPGA platforms and CI/CD workflows using GitLab and Docker. Through our FPGA competence group, you will share knowledge with colleagues and help drive the further development of FPGA technology within DEMCON.

What do you bring to the table?
  • Bsc or Msc degree in Electrical Engineering or a comparable discipline;
  • At least 3 years’ relevant work experience in FPGA development, for example with VHDL/Verilog and Xilinx platforms, or a demonstrable in-depth understanding of these areas;
  • Experienced with electronics development, embedded hardware, PCB design, bring-up and verification;
  • Able to act as the link between electronics, FPGA, software and systems engineering.
What do we offer you?

At Demcon, you’ll be working on technology that makes a real difference. In a relaxed organisation that encourages initiative and fosters a positive working relationship with motivated colleagues, you’ll help build solutions for both today and tomorrow. We genuinely care about you as a person and encourage job satisfaction and a healthy work-life balance.

You can also count on the following, amongst other things:

  • A competitive salary between €37.728,- and €68.616,- per year (excluding 8% holiday pay), depending on your experience;
  • 8% holiday pay, with the option to have this paid out in May or monthly with your salary;
  • 25 vacation days and 6 ATV days based on full-time employment and an option to purchase additional vacation days;
  • Partial remote working arrangement: up to 2 days per week for full-time employees, always in consultation with your manager;
  • Training courses and programmes via the Demcon Academy for your personal and professional development;
  • A good pension scheme with Zwitserleven;
  • Bicycle scheme/bicycle lease scheme;
  • Vitality program including fun sports clinics, fresh fruit, workshops and a workplace health check;
  • Active staff association (monthly activities and an annual Demcon weekend).
