Dalata Hotel Group plc is seeking a Food Runner for Café Americain at Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American. You will support front-of-house by delivering dishes promptly, preparing mise en place, and keeping tables and spaces clean for a smooth dining experience.

We value energetic, guest-focused individuals who communicate well in English or Dutch, stay calm under pressure, and adapt to busy service periods. Weekend and holiday availability is required in this role.

Step into the heart of service at Café Americain; an iconic, Art Deco dining landmark in the heart of Amsterdam’s bustling Leidseplein.

We’re looking for an energetic and attentive Food Runner to ensure every dish reaches our guests promptly, accurately, and with care. From morning coffees to elegant dinners and everything in between, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the front-of-house team and creating smooth, memorable dining experiences in one of the city’s most storied hospitality venues.

Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, part of the Dalata Hotel Group, is a 4-star, 173-room hotel nestled in one of the most beautiful art nouveau buildings in the Netherlands. Home to the legendary Café Americain and stylish Bar Americain, we serve guests from around the world with a culinary experience that’s as memorable as the setting.

Objective of the Role

As a Food Runner at Café Americain, you are a vital link in delivering an exceptional guest experience, ensuring every dish reaches the table quickly, accurately, and with care. Whether it’s during a bustling lunch or an elegant dinner service, you’ll work with energy, precision, and teamwork to keep the flow smooth and the restaurant running seamlessly.

You’ll support the front-of-house team by helping set up and clear tables, maintaining a clean and inviting environment, and anticipating the needs of both guests and colleagues. Adaptable and attentive, you stay calm under pressure and always stay one step ahead to help create memorable dining moments.

Key Responsibilities

Support Seamless Service

• Deliver dishes promptly, accurately, and with care, making sure every plate arrives just as the kitchen intended.
• Communicate clearly with kitchen and floor staff to ensure smooth coordination and guest satisfaction.

Set the Scene

• Prepare mise en place, including setting tables, polishing cutlery, folding napkins, and restocking service stations.
• Help maintain a clean, organised, and beautifully presented dining room throughout service.

Keep It Tidy

• Clear and reset tables efficiently and discreetly, keeping pace with the flow of service.
• Assist in keeping public and back‑of‑house areas spotless and guest‑ready at all times.

Stay Sharp on the Floor

• Anticipate team needs and respond quickly, whether it’s running drinks, fetching condiments, or lending a hand during peak hours.
• Assist with conference room setups or special events when required.

Uphold Hygiene & Safety

• Follow all hygiene and cleanliness procedures, always maintaining a tidy and safe workspace.
• Ensure compliance with food handling, safety, and presentation regulations.

Be a Team Player

• Support your colleagues across the restaurant and jump in wherever help is needed.
• Stay proactive, positive, and focused, especially when the pace picks up.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for a Food Runner who’s fast on their feet, sharp‑eyed, and passionate about creating smooth, seamless service. Here’s what makes a great fit:

• Comfortable on your feet, physically active, and able to move quickly throughout your shift
• Friendly, professional, and presentable, with confidence in communicating with both guests and teammates
• Fluent in English or Dutch (bonus points for any other languages you speak!)
• Calm under pressure, flexible, and able to juggle busy service times with a smile
• Eager to learn, proactive, and attentive to detail — you notice what needs to be done and act fast
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and public holidays
• MBO+ level work- and thinking skills or equivalent
• And/or previous experience in service for 1+ years
