Job summary

Refresco in Rotterdam seeks a Financial Controller to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting and strengthen internal controls. You will combine routine accounting with process improvements and automation, reporting to the Manager Financial Accounting within an international team.

You will manage month-end closing, SOX controls, budgeting and forecasting, and collaborate with multiple departments to provide financial insights and drive continuously improved processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance required.
• At least 3 years in a comparable senior financial accounting role.
• Proven knowledge of SOX Controls.
• Strong knowledge of SAP and Excel.
• Analytical, problem-solving and structured approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Own month-end closing and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
• Prepare and review complex entries, accruals, provisions and reconciliations.
• Lead SOX controls including P2P and inventory reporting.
• Maintain dotted-line reporting with Procurement Accounting & Projects.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and ad hoc requests.
• Identify process improvements and automation opportunities.
• Coordinate with external auditors to ensure accurate reporting.

About the role

As our Financial Controller, you will play an essential role in ensuring timely, accurate, reliable and complete financial reporting. You will combine recurring financial operations with process improvements, automation and the further development of internal controls and SOX compliance.

You will join our international Accounting team in Rotterdam, consisting of Financial Accountants, finance specialists and Accounts Payable Officers. As Refresco continues to grow, the complexity and scope of the team’s work are expanding. This creates an environment in which you can develop, contribute and make a real impact.

In this role, you will report to the Manager Financial Accounting and work alongside three other colleagues focused on financial accounting.

What you will be doing

• Responsible for the month end closing and contributing towards timely, accurate, reliable and complete closing and reporting.
• Prepare and review complex accounting entries, accruals, provisions, and reconciliations, with a specific focus on trade margin accounting and trade-related accruals, including preparation of the monthly trade margin analysis.
• Prepare and execute complex SOX controls, including inventory, Procure-to-Pay (P2P), and other key financial reporting controls, while supporting the continuous improvement of the internal control framework.
• Maintain a dotted-line reporting relationship with the Senior Specialist Procurement Accounting & Projects for trade-related accounting activities and projects.
• Support the Manager Financial Accounting in reviewing month-end deliverables, journal entries, reconciliations, reporting packages, and SOX control execution.
• Support in budgeting and forecasting activities including submissions.
• Actively identifying and implementing process enhancements and automation solutions.
• Lead and coordinate the maintenance of the financial accounting mailbox.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies.
• Support with external auditors to ensure accurate reporting.
• Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights, ad hoc questions and support and recommendations.

• At least 3 years of working experience in a comparable senior role within a financial accounting team.
• Proven knowledge and experience with SOX Controls.
• Strong understanding of SAP and Excel.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and structured way of working.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues.
• Affinity with and understanding of AI-driven tools, data analytics and process automation technologies.
• You have an analytical but entrepreneurial mindset and likes to be challenged, creating structure and change in a dynamic environment.
