Job summary

MR MARVIS, an Amsterdam-based menswear brand, seeks an experienced Financial Controller to own financial control, reporting, and the audit process as the company scales. You will work closely with the Head of Finance and lead the Odoo ERP workstream while strengthening finance processes and controls.

You will drive improvements in inventory costing, production cost visibility, and financial insights to support strategic decisions across the business.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of financial control experience and ownership of month-end close.
• Strong understanding of Dutch GAAP and financial reporting.
• Comfortable with ERP systems and ERP-driven process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end close and financial reporting, including statutory statements under Dutch GAAP.
• Lead the year-end audit process and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors.
• Drive finance transformation as Odoo ERP implementation progresses and improve processes and controls.
• Partner with Operations to improve inventory accounting, production cost visibility and financial insights.
• Collaborate with the Head of Finance to strengthen internal controls and scalable finance systems.
• Contribute to business cases, financial analysis, and cross-functional projects supporting MR MARVIS.

As MR MARVIS continues to grow, our Finance team is evolving too. We’re looking for an experienced Financial Controller ready for their next step, someone who can take ownership of Financial Control while helping us build the structure and processes we need for our next stage of growth

This isn’t a Financial Controller role where every process is already perfectly defined. We’re looking for someone who can maintain oversight of the financial picture when things aren’t always as structured as we’d like, identify where improvements are needed and help build that Financial Control as we scale

You’ll take ownership of financial reporting and audit, work closely with our Head of Finance on technical accounting topics, help drive the next phase of our Odoo implementation and partner across the business to strengthen our financial processes and controls

What you’ll do

• Financial Reporting: Own the month-end close, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and statutory financial statements in accordance with Dutch GAAP.
• Audit & Compliance: Lead the year-end audit process, acting as the primary contact for external auditors, leading technical accounting discussions and overseeing tax compliance activities in collaboration with our external tax advisors.
• Finance Transformation: Lead the finance workstream for the second phase of our Odoo ERP implementation, while continuously improving finance processes, controls and ways of working.
• Business Performance: Partner with Operations to improve inventory accounting, production cost visibility and financial insights that support better business decisions.
• Finance Partnership: Work closely with the Head of Finance to strengthen internal controls, solve technical accounting challenges and help build a scalable, future‑ready finance function.
• Strategic Support: Contribute to business cases, financial analysis and cross-functional projects that support the continued growth of MR MARVIS.

What success looks like in 6 months

• You’ve taken ownership of the month-end close and financial reporting, delivering accurate and timely reporting that stakeholders trust.
• The year-end audit is well prepared and runs smoothly through strong collaboration with our auditors and external tax advisors.
• Together with the Head of Finance, you’ve identified and implemented improvements that make our finance function more scalable, efficient and ready for future growth.
• You’ve become a trusted partner to MR MARVIS, helping move the Odoo implementation forward while improving stock movements and ensuring accurate and timely production cost registration.

Essential

• Relevant experience: You have 3+ years of relevant financial control experience- you’re comfortable independently owning month-end reporting, statutory reporting and leading our audit activities.
• Technical accounting: You have a strong understanding of Dutch GAAP and financial reporting. You are also comfortable with ERP systems.
• Education: You hold a degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field.
• Ownership: You’re hands‑on, detail‑oriented and enjoy taking ownership of complex accounting topics.
• Collaboration: You’re a proactive team player who enjoys working cross‑functionally and building strong relationships across the business. And, you are a natural coach to our Junior Financial Controller.

Nice to have

• RA, CPA or a similar accounting qualification, or equivalent technical accounting experience gained through audit or financial control.
• Experience working with or implementing ERP systems, ideally Odoo.
• Understanding of VAT and corporate income tax, or an interest in developing your knowledge and working with external tax advisors to identify and resolve potential issues.
• Experience in retail, fashion, consumer goods or manufacturing, particularly within inventory-driven businesses.
• Experience working in a fast-growing or scaleup environment, where you’ve helped bring structure to evolving finance processes while maintaining oversight of the bigger financial picture
