About the business
We’re excited to be expanding our UK business, Vintage Cash Cow, into Europe, and we’re currently setting up our European sister company, Arcavindi, just outside of Arnhem. This new venture will serve as the heart of our operations for the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France, supporting our growth as we scale. As we continue to build this dynamic, customer-focused business, we’re looking for a dedicated Financial Accountant to join our team. This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone eager to gain hands-on experience - you’ll be our first member of the EU Finance team, contributing greatly to the overall financial health and growth of the business.
About the role and team
In this role, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring smooth financial operations across the organization. As a Financial Accountant, you will be an essential part of this dynamic team, collaborating closely with the Financial team in the UK to maintain accurate financial records, support various accounting processes, and help drive improvements in the efficiency and accuracy of the finance department. We’re building our European business from the ground up, so this is a fantastic opportunity to join and build something that will set us up for success for years to come!
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Receivable & Payable: Issue and process invoices accurately and on time for accounts receivable. Process supplier invoices in accordance with company policies, and monitor overdue payments to resolve discrepancies.
- Bank Reconciliation & Payments: Reconcile bank statements accurately and resolve any discrepancies. Assist with SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) transactions, ensuring smooth and timely payments within the EU.
- General Ledger Maintenance: Maintain up-to-date and accurate general ledger records, ensuring alignment with Dutch financial regulations.
- Journal Entries & Accruals: Assist with journal entries, accruals, and other necessary entries, ensuring compliance with Dutch accounting standards.
- Payroll Administration Support: Assist with payroll tasks, using Dutch payroll systems, ensuring timely and accurate processing of salaries, statutory benefits, and deductions in compliance with Dutch labor laws. Help manage employee benefits such as vacation allowance (vakantiegeld), pension contributions and travel allowance.
- Tax Compliance: Assist with VAT (BTW) compliance, including understanding Dutch VAT rates, reporting, and filing with the Dutch tax authorities (Belastingdienst). Ensure the company is compliant with income tax withholding processes.
- Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the finance team, including filing, data entry, and document management.
- Ad Hoc Support: Offer ad hoc support to the wider finance team as needed, assisting with financial reporting and other finance-related tasks.
- Learn Arcavindi’s accounting processes and software tools.
- Get up to speed with Sage 50 and other relevant systems.
- Begin handling accounts receivable and payable tasks under supervision.
- Assist with bank reconciliation and general ledger maintenance.
- Support the team with administrative finance duties such as filing and data entry.
- Take on more responsibility for processing invoices and managing accounts.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve payment discrepancies independently.
- Assist with journal entries and accruals.
- Build proficiency in handling day-to-day accounting tasks and demonstrate initiative in improving efficiency.
Driving Excellence
- Maintain accurate and timely records in the general ledger.
- Become a reliable resource within the team, providing ongoing support and local financial knowledge.
- Contribute ideas for streamlining processes and improving the department’s overall productivity.
- Continue to grow your accounting knowledge and skills with mentorship from senior team members.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Experience in a similar position within a startup/scaleup environment
- Accounting Software Knowledge: Strong knowledge of accounting software, Sage 50 is desirable.
- Dutch VAT & Tax Knowledge: Understanding of Dutch VAT regulations, including VAT reporting and filing with the Dutch tax authorities (Belastingdienst). Knowledge of income tax withholding processes and compliance with Dutch tax laws.
- Payroll Administration: Familiarity with Dutch payroll processes, systems and tasks, including managing statutory + given benefits.
- Banking & Payment Processing: Experience in SEPA payments, managing bank reconciliation, and ensuring compliance with internal financial processes.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial tasks.
- Strong Organizational Skills: The ability to manage time efficiently and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a rapidly scaling organization and contribute to process improvements.
