We are seeking an experienced Facilities Engineer to oversee the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of facility systems and utilities at our Leiden site.
This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with GMP, EHS, Quality, and environmental regulations, while supporting operational reliability and project execution.
The Facilities Engineer will act as a technical subject matter expert, support capital and improvement projects, and ensure facilities services meet production and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage facilities operations in compliance with GxP, EHS, and Quality regulations
- Oversee maintenance, repair, and installation of utility and facility systems
- Supervise contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with company standards
- Ensure environmental management systems are implemented, monitored, and maintained
- Identify operational and compliance risks and implement mitigation plans
- Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for audits, deviations, area improvements, and capital justifications
- Support and lead facilities-related projects and cross-functional initiatives
- Manage assigned budgets and drive cost optimization
- Promote continuous improvement and innovative solutions
- Ensure compliance with all federal, local, and corporate regulatory requirements
- Support the Facilities Supervisor and collaborate across departments as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical field
- 5–7 years of relevant experience in facilities engineering or technical operations
- Strong knowledge of:
- EHS & Environmental regulations
- Facilities utilities (GMP and non-GMP systems)
- Experience managing contractors and service providers
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively
- Strong compliance mindset with high integrity
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree (MS or MBA)
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification
- Experience supporting regulatory audits
- Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or highly regulated environments
- Familiarity with CAPA systems
Practicalities
- Work Model: Onsite (due to operational and compliance requirements)
- Contract Duration: 6 months
