Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam's Department of Philosophy invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Ethics and Political Philosophy. The candidate will conduct research at the intersection of ethics and political philosophy, contribute to teaching in PPE, Philosophy, and related bachelor’s programmes, and develop a Master course for Ethics, Economics and Policy.

The position is introductory for early-career scholars and involves teaching, supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration

Qualifications

• PhD in Philosophy completed by the starting date.
• Active research in ethics and political philosophy.
• Ability to teach ethics and political philosophy at bachelor and master levels.
• Strong teaching, communication and organizational skills.
• International academic orientation and potential to develop a relevant international network.
• Ability to teach effectively in English; Dutch proficiency is an advantage.
• UTQ/BKO desirable; willingness to obtain it within a timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Conduct internationally relevant research in ethics and political philosophy.
• Publish research in journals, books, or edited volumes.
• Pursue external research funding, individually and with colleagues.
• Teach bachelor’s and master’s courses in ethics and political philosophy.
• Supervise bachelor’s and master’s theses in relevant programmes.
• Contribute to course and curriculum development, coordination, evaluation.
• Participate in Ethics Group, Department of Philosophy, and John Stuart Mill College activities.
• Share in administrative and organizational responsibilities.
