Job summary

SSC Space Netherlands is seeking two End-to-End Mission Performance Engineers for Noordwijk, Netherlands. These permanent roles support mission performance across space systems, working in a Linux environment and collaborating with the systems engineering team.

Candidates should hold a Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science and be proficient in C/C++, Python, Linux, and Docker, with strong English. Relocation support is available and remuneration follows ESA job class.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Linux: command line, remote servers, SSH, and file transfers.
  • Good understanding of C/C++ and Python: read code, interpret errors, adjust parameters.
  • Docker knowledge: starting/stopping containers, basic diagnostics, images.
  • Experience with optical imagers for simulation and processing.
  • Proficient English language ability.

Responsibilities

  • Support the systems engineering team by running simulations to assess mission performance.
  • Operate End-to-End simulators and related tools in a remote Linux environment via CLI.
  • Support reviews of E2E mission software in C/C++ and Python; participate in meetings.
  • Assist in production and verification of test data sets for performance simulators.
  • Support pre-launch/in-orbit commissioning activities.
  • Contribute to analysis of data from on-ground and in-orbit campaigns.
  • Identify software anomalies and report to developers.
  • Perform software installation, integration, and environment setup on remote Linux servers.
  • Support Verification Control Boards (VCB) preparation and status tracking.
  • Participate in technical reviews with relevant inputs.

End-to-End Mission Performance Engineers (2 positions) — Noordwijk, Netherlands. Permanent role with SSC Space.

Requirements

Specific Qualification requirements

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Physics, Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Knowledge of Linux environments: able to work in the command line, run scripts, review and filter logs, manage basic permissions, connect to remote servers via SSH, and transfer files using FTP/SFTP/FTPS from the terminal.
  • Good understanding of C/C++ and Python: ability to follow code structure, interpret build or runtime error messages, adjust simple parameters, and use related tools (build systems, helper scripts, etc.).
  • Competence in using Docker technology: starting/stopping containers, checking status, basic diagnostics, rebuilding simple images, and maintaining a stable dockerized execution environment.
  • Proven expertise with optical instruments (imagers), for both simulation and processing.
  • A good knowledge of English.

Legal and Security Requirements

  • All applicants must be legally allowed to work in the Netherlands.
  • Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. SSC Space Netherlands will validate the degree with the issuing university and provide evidence to ESA.
  • Prior to issuing a letter of employment, the applicant shall provide a recent official document declaring good conduct from the country of current residence.
Responsibilities

Specific Tasks

  • Support the systems engineering team by performing simulations to assess and evaluate the effects of non-compliance on mission performance.
  • Operate End-to-End (E2E) simulators and related software tools in a remote Linux environment using a command line interface to ensure proper verification and validation.
  • Support reviews of end-to-end mission performance software components developed in C/C++ and Python; actively participate in project meetings.
  • Provide support in the production and verification of test data sets for performance simulators.
  • Support the team in the preparation of in-orbit commissioning activities.
  • Contribute to the analysis of data collected during on-ground and in-orbit calibration and characterization campaigns.
  • Identify software anomalies and report them to developers for further analysis.
  • Perform software installation, integration, and environment setup in remote Linux servers.
  • Support the system engineering team in the requirements verification process, particularly in the preparation of Verification Control Boards (VCB) including tracking verification status and compliance.
  • Participate in technical reviews and provide relevant inputs.
