Job summary

Airwallex is seeking a qualified lawyer with 6–8 years post‑qualification experience to lead regulatory matters across the EMEA region, focusing on EU/EEA payments frameworks and licensing strategies.

You will collaborate with multiple teams to embed compliance in product design, engage with regulators, and oversee external counsel for complex licensing projects while leveraging RegTech and AI tools for efficiency.

Qualifications

• Qualified lawyer with 6–8 years post‑qualification experience (P3 level).
• Strong regulatory experience gained in fintech, financial services, or similar.
• EU/EEA regulatory knowledge, with hands-on licensing/submissions experience.
• Mix of private practice and in‑house is ideal but not mandatory.
• Fluent English; additional European languages are an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Provide regulatory legal support across EMEA with emphasis on EU/EEA.
• Advise on licensing, passporting, conduct and prudential requirements for payments services.
• Collaborate with Product Legal, Regulatory Compliance and Risk teams to embed regulatory requirements.
• Lead engagement with regulators and manage external counsel for licensing projects.
• Leverage RegTech/AI tooling to improve efficiency and scale of the function.
