Job description

YOUR JOB IN A NUTSHELL

Are you passionate about engineering innovation and electrification? Join Yanmar’s Electrification Unit and help develop state-of-the-art embedded software solutions that power the next generation of off-highway machinery. This is your chance to make a real impact on the electrification of industrial equipment in a collaborative, international environment.

Our R&D department is looking for its future Embedded Software Engineer – ePowertrain (E/E Engineering)

As a Software Embedded Engineer for E/E engineering, you will design and develop embedded software solutions that form the backbone of Yanmar's electric off-highway machines. Your expertise will be crucial in creating efficient and innovative electric powertrain architectures that enhance the operability and functionality of our electrified systems. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams from Japan and the Netherlands, you'll ensure seamless integration and performance across all electronic components. Your role is key in driving Yanmar's mission to lead in off-highway electrification through cutting-edge software and system design.

But before we tell you more about this opportunity, let us introduce ourselves!

ABOUT US

At Yanmar, we are committed to building a sustainable future. In April 2025, we launched the At Yanmar, we are committed to building a sustainable future. In April 2025, we launched the Electrification Unit (Eleo Technologies B.V.) to lead the transformation of compact off‑highway machinery through innovative zero‑emission solutions.

The Electrification Unit focuses on developing a diverse portfolio of e‑powertrain technologies, including batteries and eDrives, to electrify applications such as excavators, wheel loaders, and other industrial machinery.

Operating globally with teams in the Netherlands, Germany, and Japan, the Electrification Unit leverages Yanmar's extensive resources and technical expertise to deliver efficient, reliable, and high‑performance electrification solutions.

Our work supports Yanmar’s broader Green Challenge 2050 initiative, reinforcing our commitment to environmental responsibility and carbon reduction.

Joining Yanmar’s Electrification Unit means becoming part of a forward‑thinking team dedicated to innovation and sustainability. Here, your contributions will have a real impact on the future of energy and the development of cleaner, more efficient machinery.

Tasks
  • Design and implement embedded software solutions as part of the E/E architecture for electrified systems.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to analyze, compare, and select electronic components, gaining a deep understanding of their behavior and developing effective control strategies.
  • Ensure seamless integration of electronic components within the E/E architecture, optimizing system performance and functionality.
  • Innovate and enhance the E/E architecture through continuous code optimization and feature updates.
  • Work collaboratively with teams across Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands to align software strategies with overall design objectives.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of software architectures, changes, and version control.
  • Ensure all embedded software solutions comply with industry standards and Yanmar's quality benchmarks.

As a key player in our team, you'll bring technical expertise, problem‑solving skills, and a passion for innovation to the table :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in embedded software development for E/E architectures.
  • Experience in PCU (Powertrain Control Unit) development (instead of BMS focus), preferably in automotive or similar electrification projects.
  • Proven experience working directly with hardware components, analyzing control behavior, and developing integration and control software for complex systems.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, with natural communication skills and the ability to collaborate in multicultural teams.
  • At least 5 years of hands‑on experience using Matlab™ Simulink for software development and deployment.
  • Strong familiarity with automotive and off‑highway communication protocols and ecosystems, such as CAN, J1939/CANOpen, UDS, LIN, AUTOSAR, etc.
  • Experience with embedded development tools and environments.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ are a plus.
  • Strong scripting skills and experience with automation tools are a plus.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Motivation to grow toward system‑level design.
  • Understanding of microcontroller‑based systems and willingness to expand into broader system architecture.
