Job summary

S&T in Delft is seeking an Electronics Design Engineer to lead the PCB design team and own the complete hardware development lifecycle from concept to production. You will collaborate with Engineers across disciplines to deliver high-performance onboard processing platforms for space missions.

The role requires a strong background in high-speed digital design, FPGA-aware architectures, and a track record of delivering robust hardware under demanding environments.

Qualifications

• Education: BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years of dedicated electronics design experience.
• Experience with high‑speed digital design.
• Expertise in CAD tools (Altium, Cadence, Xpedition).
• Experience with DDR, PCIe, Ethernet or SpaceFibre interfaces.
• Familiarity with FPGA-based architectures and embedded platforms.
• Ability to analyze and debug high‑speed hardware.
• Security clearance eligibility (Dutch/NATO/EU).
• English fluency; Dutch is a plus.

We are currently looking for a Electronics Design Engineerto join theteam in Delft.

As Earth observation missions continueto demand higher-resolution sensors and increasingly intelligent payloads, theneed for a new generation of onboard processing capabilities is growing rapidly.Processing data directly in space enables faster decision-making, reducesbandwidth requirements, and unlocks entirely new mission concepts. At S&T,we are developing the next generation of onboard processing platforms thatcombine high-performance electronics, advanced software, and AI to bring these enhancedcapabilities into orbit as quickly as possible.

As a Senior Electronics Design Engineer,you will play a key role in the development of our first-generation onboardcomputing platform. You will be responsible for the complete hardwaredevelopment lifecycle, from concept through production. Your responsibilitiesinclude schematic capture, PCB layout, manufacturing support, testing,debugging, validation, and commissioning of electronic assemblies.

You will collaborateclosely with multidisciplinary teams, including System Architects, FPGAEngineers, Embedded Systems Engineers, Space Systems Engineers, and MechanicalEngineers, to develop high-performance, reliable products for demandingenvironments.

• Lead the PCB design team by establishing efficient engineering processes and ways ofworking. Mentor and support junior and medior Electronics Design Engineers intheir day-to-day activities and perform design reviews to ensure technicalquality and compliance.
• Translate system-levelrequirements into robust hardware designs, ensuringthat all high-level functional, performance, and reliability requirements arefully implemented.
• Perform board-level SignalIntegrity (SI) analysis, simulation, and validationto optimize high-speed interfaces and mitigate crosstalk, impedance mismatches,and electromagnetic interference.
• Conduct Power Integrity (PI)analysis, simulation, and measurements to ensurestable power distribution and reliable system performance under dynamicoperating conditions.
• Perform thermal analysis, simulation, and validation ofelectronic assemblies to ensure reliable operation under all operating andenvironmental conditions. Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to optimizethermal management through PCB stack-up, component placement, heat spreading,and heatsink design.
• Support environmentalqualification and acceptance testing of electronic hardware, including vibration, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum (TVAC), radiation, EMC/EMI, and functionaltesting. Work closely with Space Systems and Mechanical Engineers to preparetest campaigns, analyse test results, investigate anomalies, and implementdesign improvements to ensure compliance with mission and customerrequirements.
• Work closely with procurement and supply chain partners to select componentswith long-term availability and secure sourcing strategies, minimizing supplychain risks.
• Collaborate with external PCB manufacturers and assembly partners to ensureDesign for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) compliance,supporting a smooth transition from prototype to production.
• Define component selection strategies, considering radiation tolerance, reliability, obsolescence,manufacturability, and long-term availability, particularly for space anddefence applications.

Requirements

• Education: A BSc or MSc degree in ElectricalEngineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledgedemonstrated through relevant professional experience in electronics hardwaredesign and development.
• Experience: Minimum 10 years ofdedicated electronics design experience, with relevant experience in high-speeddigital design.
• EDA Tools: Expert proficiency inindustry-standard CAD suites (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, orSiemens Xpedition).
• Experience with high-speedinterfaces such as DDR memory, PCIe, Ethernet, SpaceFibreor similar communication protocols.
• Familiarity with FPGA-based hardware architectures, high-speed processors,memory interfaces, and embedded computing platforms.
• Ability to analyze and debughigh-speed hardware issues using laboratorymeasurement equipment and systematic troubleshooting techniques.
• Affinity with the Defencesector and the ability to obtain Dutch, NATO, or EU security clearances(required).
• Fluency in English (written and spoken); Dutchis an advantage.
