Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine in Leiden, Netherlands, is seeking an EHS Engineer within the EVM group on a 12-month contract. The role is hybrid (3 days on-site, 2 days WFH) and 40 hours per week, focusing on shaping the EVM EHS strategy and governance for engineering, maintenance and projects.

You will own and improve key EHS processes, strengthen contractor safety management, and coach employees and contractors to identify and manage risks effectively.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety or a comparable technical discipline.
• HVK safety qualification or comparable preferred.
• Experience in EHS within engineering, manufacturing, pharma, utilities or similar.
• Ability to lead cross-functional improvement initiatives and influence stakeholders.
• Practical experience with contractor safety and safe systems of work.
• Knowledge of Contractor management, Permit-to-Work and high-risk activities (LOTOTO, hot work).
• Experience with EHS management systems and audits.
• Strong communication and coaching skills.

Responsibilities

• Strong stakeholder and contract management, ensuring safety compliance and translating policies into practical applications.
• Shape and execute the EVM EHS strategy with measurable improvement plans.
• Own and improve key EHS processes, including contractor management and PTW/ePTW.
• Provide EHS support for engineering, maintenance, projects and shutdown activities.
• Strengthen contractor safety from onboarding to field verification and reviews.
• Lead or support risk assessments, incident investigations and CAPAs for sustainable improvements.
• Support audits, inspections and EHS assurance activities and use findings to reduce risk.
• Coordinate EHS activities across EVM and influence stakeholders to strengthen safety culture.
