Job summary

Job Summary:

Supermicro is seeking an experienced Director, Global Trade Compliance (BV) to lead the company’s trade compliance operations for its European headquarters in the Netherlands (BV). This strategic leadership role is responsible for overseeing export controls, customs and import compliance, trade operations, regulatory governance, process improvement, and trade compliance automation supporting Supermicro's rapidly expanding AI, high-performance computing, semiconductor, and cloud infrastructure business throughout Europe.

The Director serves as the primary Global Trade Compliance leader for the BV organization, ensuring compliance with Dutch, European Union, U.S., and other applicable international trade regulations while enabling efficient global business operations. This role partners closely with Sales, Operations, Manufacturing, Logistics, Procurement, Finance, Legal, Engineering, IT, and regional business leaders to develop scalable compliance programs, implement technology-driven solutions, and continuously improve trade compliance processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead all activities across export compliance, import/customs compliance, and operational trade compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain trade compliance policies, procedures, internal controls, and other applicable global trade regulations.
  • Serve as the primary trade compliance advisor for EU business operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with executive leadership to proactively identify regulatory risks and implement practical business solutions.

Export Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), EU Dual-Use Regulation, Dutch Strategic Goods regulations, sanctions, anti-boycott requirements, and other applicable export control laws.
  • Oversee export classifications, licensing determinations, license management, and export authorization strategies.
  • Review high-risk transactions, customers, destinations, and end-use concerns.
  • Provide guidance regarding restricted AI technologies, advanced semiconductors, encryption products, and emerging technologies.
  • Support regulatory audits, government inquiries, voluntary disclosures, and investigations as necessary.

Import & Customs Compliance:

  • Lead European customs compliance programs and ensure compliance with Dutch Customs requirements, Union Customs Code (UCC), and other applicable EU customs regulations.
  • Develop customs governance programs that reduce operational risk while improving customs efficiency.
  • Support customs audits, post-entry corrections, customs rulings, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Procurement to improve customs compliance throughout the procurement and logistics process.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Evaluate and lead continous improvement on existing trade compliance processes.
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and reporting metrics.
  • Establish standardized procedures across regional trade compliance operations.

Trade Automation & Digital Transformation:

  • Lead implementation and continuous improvement of trade compliance technology solutions,
  • Partner with IT to identify automation opportunities that reduce manual effort, improve data quality, and strengthen compliance controls.
  • Support implementation of AI-enabled compliance tools, analytics, workflow automation, and reporting capabilities.
  • Drive data governance initiatives supporting accurate product classifications, customer due diligence, licensing, and customs compliance.
  • Conduct trade compliance risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies, including oversee due diligence activities.
  • Review complex transactions and maintain appropriate documentation involving diversion risks, restricted end users, sanctioned jurisdictions, and sensitive technologies.

Training & Compliance Culture:

  • Develop and deliver trade compliance training.
  • Promote a culture of compliance through education, communication, and partnership with business functions.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Customs, International Trade, Business Administration, Law, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced degree or professional trade certifications preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in global trade compliance, customs, or export controls.
  • Minimum 7 years of leadership experience managing global trade compliance programs.
  • Strong experience supporting multinational technology, semiconductor, electronics, or advanced manufacturing companies.
  • Demonstrated experience managing both export controls and customs compliance programs.
  • Experience implementing compliance process improvements and enterprise-wide automation initiatives.

Core Competencies:

  • Expert knowledge of U.S. EAR, EU Dual-Use Regulation, Dutch export controls, customs regulations, sanctions, and international trade compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of European customs operations, import compliance, tariff classification, valuation, and origin rules.
  • Experience implementing ERP, SAP GTS, screening, and customs automation solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to simplify complex regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional projects and organizational change.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced global environment.
  • Executive presence with strong decision-making and business judgment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting AI, advanced computing, semiconductor, cloud computing, or high-performance computing industries.
  • Experience with SAP GTS, Descartes, or other global trade management systems.
  • Knowledge of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), customs special procedures, and free trade programs.
  • Experience leading digital transformation, compliance analytics, and automation initiatives.
  • Experience managing regulatory audits, customs examinations, and government inquiries.
  • Familiarity with global supply chain optimization and customs strategy.
  • Professional certifications such as CUSECO, CCS, LCB, ICA, or similar trade compliance credentials.
