Job summary

Rabobank is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build the backend platform that connects AI services, enterprise systems, CRM platforms, and business processes in a secure, scalable, production-ready way.

You will shape architecture, integrations, and operational excellence for a platform supporting multiple AI assistants and critical workflows. A hybrid setup with Utrecht office presence 1–2 days per week is expected.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on C# and .NET.
• Experience designing and operating production APIs and distributed systems.
• Hands-on in Microsoft Azure and cloud-native development.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, Terraform, or similar).
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and secure development practices.

• Salary: Gross monthly salary between EUR 5,030 and EUR 7,183 (scale 09)for a 36-hour work week.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design and build the backend platform that connects AI services, enterprise systems, CRM platforms, and business processes in a secure, scalable, and production-ready way. You will play a key role in shaping the architecture, integrations, engineering standards, and operational excellence of a platform that supports multiple AI assistants and business-critical workflows.

Required Qualifications

• You have a relevant HBO or university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience with C# and .NET.
• Experience designing, building, and operating production-grade APIs and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native application development.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, Terraform, or similar).
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, integration patterns, and system design.
• Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, and secure software development practices.
• Experience working within complex enterprise environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Azure Functions and event-driven architectures.
• Experience integrating Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, or other generative AI services.
• Experience with API gateways such as Kong.
• Experience with Azure networking, private endpoints, and enterprise security patterns.
• Experience operating systems in regulated environments with sensitive data.
• Azure certifications such as AZ-204, AZ-104, AZ-400 or AZ-900.
• Experience contributing across the full technology stack.
• Experience integrating with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Genesys Cloud, CRM systems, or customer engagement platforms.
• Experience designing and consuming APIs in enterprise environments using API gateway platforms such as Kong.
• Familiarity with API provider/consumer architectures and enterprise integration patterns.

You’ll join a multidisciplinary team consisting of Backend Engineers, Business Analysts, Prompt Engineers, and AI specialists working together to deliver AI-powered solutions across Rabobank. We value collaboration, ownership, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

We work in a hybrid setup and expect team members to be present at the Utrecht office approximately 1-2 days per week. The remainder of the week can be worked remotely, depending on team and business needs.

As a senior engineer, you'll have significant influence on technical decisions, architectural direction, engineering standards, and the future development of our AI platform.
