Job summary

Charterama b.v. in Rotterdam is seeking an experienced Desk Underwriter to join our international team. You will assess and manage Charterers’ Liability risks, handling quotations and policy administration from our Rotterdam HQ.

You will build relationships with brokers and clients across markets, contribute to portfolio growth, and leverage your Dutch and English communication skills in a dynamic, offshore-friendly environment.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of marine insurance or shipping experience.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in maritime law, shipping, logistics or related field.
• Wft certification or willingness to obtain it.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Proactive mindset with commercial opportunities.
• Team player with hands-on attitude.
• Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English; French and/or Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assessing and underwriting Charterers’ Liability risks from both a commercial and technical perspective.
• Preparing and following up on quotations, and managing policies throughout their lifecycle.
• Actively developing new business opportunities and expanding the existing portfolio.
• Building and expanding long-term relationships with international brokers and clients from Rotterdam.

Are you the Desk Underwriter we are searching for? As our portfolio continues to grow, we are looking for a new colleague to join our team in Rotterdam.

In this role, you will help assess and manage Charterers’ Liability risks at the highest level. The mix of commercially and technically reviewing new business enquiries and managing existing accounts ensures a varied and engaging role. You will work in an international environment, building relationships with brokers and clients from different markets. As part of a close-knit team with short communication lines, you will be encouraged to take initiative, apply your expertise, and contribute to the continued growth of the business.

Responsibilities

• Assessing and underwriting Charterers’ Liability risks from both a commercial and technical perspective;
• Preparing and following up on quotations, as well as managing policies throughout their lifecycle;
• Actively developing new business opportunities and further expanding the existing portfolio;
• Building, strengthening and expanding long‑term relationships with (international) brokers and clients, serving as the primary point of contact, from our headquarters in Rotterdam.

Requirements

• At least 2–3 years of relevant experience in marine insurance and/or shipping;
• Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in maritime law, shipping, logistics or a related field;
• Wft certification (or willingness to obtain it);
• Strong analytical skills;
• A proactive mindset, with a keen eye for commercial opportunities;
• Team player with a hands‑on attitude;
• Excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English; knowledge of French and/or Spanish would be an advantage;
