Job summary

Budget Thuis is seeking a Data Engineer to help lay the technical foundation for how a Dutch energy supplier uses its data, from warehouse to orchestration.

You'll play a pivotal role in evaluating tools for the data stack, building pipelines, and embedding data quality checks as a standard practice. You’ll grow with a small team and tackle meaningful data challenges in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building and maintaining production data pipelines in a modern cloud data stack (warehouse, dbt, orchestration).
• Ability to write tests and embed data quality checks as a normal part of work.
• Track record of shipping incrementally with simple, working solutions.
• Strong collaboration skills and willingness to seek help when needed.
• Curiosity about how pipelines connect to real outcomes for customers in energy.

Responsibilities

• Help evaluate and choose tools for the data stack (warehouse, ELT, orchestration).
• Build and maintain low to medium complexity data pipelines once foundation is in place.
• Add data quality checks to every pipeline change (null checks, row counts, schema validation, dbt tests).
• Break work into small increments and keep PRs focused.
• Monitor pipeline outputs after deployments and keep codebase maintainable.
• Respond quickly to failures, investigate root causes, and upscale when needed.
• Review PRs, pair with teammates on complex work, and support colleagues.
• Communicate changes affecting downstream users (BI, ML, customers) and prioritize by impact.
• Build a concrete growth plan with management and learn from mistakes.
