Job summary

Budget Thuis is building a data platform from scratch and seeks a Data Engineer to lay the foundation for how we collect, store, and orchestrate data for a Dutch energy supplier.

You'll join a brand‑new data team, evaluate tools (data warehouse, ELT, orchestration), and craft scalable pipelines with quality checks. You will ship in small increments, review PRs, and collaborate closely with the Data Platform and BI teams to ensure the right data flows to customers and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building and maintaining production data pipelines in a modern cloud data stack (data warehouse, dbt, orchestration).
• Ability to write tests and embed data quality checks as part of normal work flow.
• Track record of shipping incremental, simple, working solutions.
• Strong collaboration skills and proactive blockers communication.
• Curiosity about how pipelines drive outcomes for customers in the energy sector.
• Growth mindset with desire for technical independence.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines of low to medium complexity on an evolving stack.
• Help evaluate tools for data warehouse, ELT, and orchestration.
• Add data quality checks like null checks, row counts, schema validation, and dbt tests.
• Break work into small increments and keep PRs focused.
• Monitor pipeline outputs after deployments and keep codebase maintainable.
• Respond quickly to failures, investigate root causes, and escalate when needed.
• Review PRs, pair with teammates, and support colleagues as needed.
• Communicate upstream when changes affect downstream BI/ML/customers and prioritize by impact.
• Develop a concrete growth plan with your manager and learn from mistakes.
