Job summary

TNO is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Data Innovation team at the Geological Survey of the Netherlands. You will design, build and manage scalable data pipelines, AI-ready data products and contribute to AI platforms and lakehouse architectures.

You will collaborate with data scientists, geologists and engineers to translate ideas into production-ready solutions, focusing on CI/CD, DataOps and MLOps processes, and ensuring reproducible data and model workflows.

Qualifications

• Completed degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, AI, Geoinformatics or related field.
• Five+ years of relevant experience as Data Engineer, MLOps Engineer, Platform Engineer or Software Engineer.
• Strong Python, scalable data pipelines, and large datasets.
• Experience with data lakes or lakehouse architectures, CI/CD and deployment management.
• Knowledge of containerisation and infrastructure-as-code, e.g., Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of data lineage, provenance, version control and reproducible data/workflow processes.
• Experience managing and operationalising applications in an enterprise environment.
• Strong communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and manage scalable data pipelines for large geological, spatial and sensor datasets.
• Develop AI-ready data products and contribute to data lakes and lakehouse architectures.
• Work on CI/CD, DataOps and MLOps processes, deployment management and reproducible workflows.
• Collaborate with data scientists, geologists and advisors in multidisciplinary teams.
• Balance production readiness with exploration, aiming for future-proof solutions.
