Job summary

CBRE Middenmeer in Noord-Holland is seeking a hands-on Data Centre Technician to join our on-site team. You will focus on cooling and HVAC systems, from CRAC/CRAH units to chillers, pumps and pipework, ensuring safe and compliant operations.

As a generalist technician with a mechanical focus, you will support maintenance, fault diagnosis, and changes under permit-to-work controls, contributing to the reliability and resilience of our data center.

Qualifications

• Formal qualification in mechanical engineering, HVAC or refrigeration, or equivalent apprenticeship.
• 1–2 years hands‑on maintenance experience in mechanical or HVAC in critical environments.
• Knowledge of CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, pumps, pipes and pressurization systems.
• F-gas certification or refrigerant-handling qualification is a plus.
• Ability to read mechanical schematics and P&ID drawings.
• Good English communication; Dutch is a plus.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; able to document work in the CMMS.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance on mechanical systems including CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, pumps, pipework and pressurization units.
• Respond to mechanical faults and alarms, diagnose root causes, and carry out corrective repairs.
• Perform daily site inspections of cooling plant and auxiliary systems, logging findings and escalating anomalies.
• Support commissioning, decommissioning, and change-management activities under permit-to-work controls.
• Work alongside specialist contractors, overseeing CBRE procedures and the Master Service Agreement.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, completing documentation in the CMMS.
• Assist with general facility and electrical tasks to improve overall reliability.
• Complete mandatory training including mechanical safety, refrigerant handling, and inductions.

CBRE manages some of the most critical data center infrastructure in the world. At our Middenmeer facility in Noord-Holland, we keep hyperscale operations running with our dedicated team. We are looking for a hands-on Data Centre Technician to join the on-site team. This is a generalist technician role with a clear mechanical focus: you will spend most of your time on cooling and HVAC systems, from precision air conditioning units and chillers to pumps. You will also support broader facility tasks as part of a multidisciplinary operations crew. With your technical insight, you ensure that all work is carried out safely, accurately, and in accordance with applicable standards.

What You Will Do

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical systems, including computer room air conditioning (CRAC/CRAH) units, chillers, pumps, pipework, and pressurization units.
• Respond to mechanical faults and alarms, diagnose root causes, and carry out corrective repairs to maintain data center temperature and humidity within defined parameters.
• Perform daily site inspections of cooling plant and auxiliary systems, logging findings and escalating anomalies promptly.
• Support commissioning, decommissioning, and change-management activities under permit-to-work controls.
• Work alongside specialist contractors during planned maintenance, overseeing compliance with CBRE procedures and the Master Service Agreement.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records, completing all required documentation in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Assist with general facility and electrical tasks as required, contributing to the overall reliability of the data center.
• Complete all mandatory training, including mechanical safety, refrigerant handling, and site-specific inductions.

What You Will Need

• A recognized technical qualification in mechanical engineering, HVAC, refrigeration, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience gained through a formal apprenticeship.
• 1 to 2 years of hands-on experience in mechanical or HVAC maintenance, ideally within a critical environment such as a data center, hospital, or industrial plant.
• Sound knowledge of cooling systems including CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, and associated pipework and pumping systems.
• F-gas certification or equivalent refrigerant-handling qualification is an advantage.
• Familiarity with permit-to-work systems.
• Ability to read mechanical schematics and P&ID drawings.
• Good English communication skills (Dutch is an advantage), with the ability to exchange clear information with colleagues, contractors, and management.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong organizational skills and an eye for detail.
• Physical fitness to meet the demands of the role, including working at height and in confined spaces.
