Job summary

PassiveLogic, based in Amsterdam, is seeking a Controls Deployment Engineer to bring autonomous building technologies to life on live commercial sites. You will work with seasoned engineers across HVAC, intelligent controls, and AI, deploying, commissioning, and validating systems while solving complex field problems to ensure reliable performance.

This hands-on role blends field deployment with data-driven optimization and close collaboration with product and operations teams.

Qualifications

• Commercial HVAC experience in mechanical rooms including installing, surveying, testing or commissioning equipment.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, commission, and validate autonomous building technologies in live commercial buildings.
• Perform site surveys, inspect HVAC equipment and controls, and gather data for digital twin development.
• Test building controls, sensors, actuators, and equipment to ensure readiness for autonomous operation.
• Diagnose issues across mechanical, building controls, networking and software from physical system to autonomous platform.
• Assist with system startup, functional testing, and deployment activities with engineering teams.
• Capture and validate operational data from building systems to support optimization.

As a Controls Deployment Engineer, you’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with experienced engineers to bring autonomous buildings to life. What you’ll do

Work on our deployment sites:Work alongside our Applied Engineering team to deploy, commission, and validate autonomous building technologies in live commercial buildings.

Investigate Building Systems:Perform site surveys, inspect HVAC equipment and controls, and gather the information needed to support digital twin development and successful deployments.

Commission and Validate Systems:Test building controls, sensors, actuators, and equipment to ensure systems operate correctly and are ready for autonomous operation.

Troubleshoot Across the Stack:Diagnose issues spanning mechanical equipment, building controls, networking, and software, following problems from the physical system through to the autonomous platform.

Support Autonomous Building Deployments: Assist with system startup, functional testing, and deployment activities while working closely with engineering teams to ensure reliable field performance.

Collect and Analyse Building Data:Capture, organise, and validate operational data from building systems to support system optimisation and continuous product improvement.

What you’ll bring

You must have

• Proven experience: Commercial HVAC experience. This means having spent time in mechanical rooms installing, surveying, testing, or commissioning equipment.
• Exceptional communication skills: Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers and leaders in changing environments. Bonus points for Dutch language skills.
• Organized and strategic: Curious, open-minded, and eager to contribute while continuously learning. Self-directed and capable of making progress independently without needing constant direction
• Collaborative mindset: Work effectively across teams, customers, and subcontractors to deliver successful deployments.
• Adaptability: Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment, eager to learn, iterate, and innovate. Flexible and comfortable operating in uncertain or changing situations.
• Problem solving: You own this role. When issues arise, be the empowered force that solves them, rolling-up.

You should have

• Familiarity of working on sites: Comfortable working on site, including climbing ladders, working in dark or tight spaces, opening panels, and testing control signals with a multimeter
• Interest in following problems to solution: Strong troubleshooting mindset and willingness to follow a problem from the physical equipment through the controls and software.

It’s helpful to have

• Building automation or commissioning experience: Experience programming supervisory or field controllers. Experience performing point-to-point checkout and validating systems against sequences of operation.
• Controls Hardware: Experience with embedded systems such as Raspberry Pi or similar edge-computing devices.
• Familiarity with: Linux, command-line tools, Bash, Git, Docker or Podman, and systemd.
• Experience working with: SQL, GraphQL, databases, APIs, or structured equipment data.
• Knowledge of: Building energy analysis or building-performance experience,creating or using operational dashboards.
• Ability to: use trend data and analytics to identify and root-cause building-system faults.
