Job summary

Atlas NextWave is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead the commercial lifecycle for Civil Construction projects in the Netherlands. You will identify opportunities, coordinate tenders, negotiate contracts and maintain strong client relationships while working with technical and operations teams.

The role requires hands-on, travel-heavy work with international clients, suppliers and partners. You will develop cost models, monitor market developments and report to the Managing

Qualifications

  • Commercial management experience in a technical environment.
  • Experience in Civil Construction, marine or subsea is a strong advantage.
  • Strong verbal and written communication in English and Dutch; German is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, source and follow up on commercial leads and opportunities within Civil Construction.
  • Prepare and submit tenders with technical, operational and legal teams.
  • Coordinate tender clarifications and meet deadlines.
  • Lead contractual and commercial negotiations, including subcontractor deals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential clients.
  • Visit clients, suppliers, subcontractors and partners regularly.
  • Monitor market developments, customer requirements and competitor activity.
  • Report to the Managing Director on commercial opportunities and market trends.
  • Chair commercial risk review meetings through tender and contracting processes.
  • Develop cost models with focus on standardisation and efficiency.

Job description

For an international company active in the marine, subsea and civil construction industry, we are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager.

In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and following up on commercial opportunities within the Civil Construction business line. You will play a key role in developing new business, maintaining strong client relationships and converting opportunities into successful projects.

This is a hands‑on, client‑facing commercial position. You will spend a significant amount of your time travelling to visit existing and potential clients, suppliers, subcontractors and business partners. You will also work closely with internal technical and operational teams to develop solutions that meet customer requirements while achieving the company's commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, source and follow up on commercial leads and opportunities within Civil Construction.
  • Prepare and submit tenders, working closely with technical, operational and legal teams.
  • Coordinate tender clarifications and ensure responses are handled efficiently and within deadlines.
  • Lead contractual and commercial negotiations, including negotiations with subcontractors.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients.
  • Visit clients, suppliers, subcontractors and partners on a regular basis.
  • Monitor market developments, customer requirements and competitor activity.
  • Report to and advise the Managing Director on commercial opportunities and market developments.
  • Schedule and chair commercial risk review meetings throughout the tender and contracting process.
  • Work with internal teams to develop commercial and operational solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain cost models, with a focus on standardisation, efficiency and digitalisation.
  • Communicate contractual terms clearly to all relevant parties, particularly the financial aspects of contracts.
  • Represent the company at industry events, exhibitions and other networking opportunities.
About you

We are looking for a commercially driven professional with experience in technical sales and/or commercial management within Civil Construction, marine or a related technical industry.

You ideally bring:

  • Demonstrable commercial management experience within a technical environment.
  • Experience in the Civil Construction industry; marine or subsea experience is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with relevant diving safety procedures and regulations is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch. German is an advantage.
  • Strong commercial, contractual and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working successfully within small, multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A strong financial understanding and commercial mindset.
  • A hands‑on, entrepreneurial mentality with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
