Job summary

Optics11 in the Netherlands is expanding its team with a Data & ML Infrastructure Engineer who will own the platform for data ingestion, processing, storage, and ML workflows across products. You will design, implement, and improve a cloud-agnostic data/ML platform that supports multiple teams while ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency.

Qualifications

• MSc or equivalent with 5+ years in CS, data engineering, ML, or related field.
• Strong experience with data platforms, cloud infra, and distributed systems.
• Proficient with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and automated deployments.
• Experience with ML platforms/tools (MLflow, Feast, DVC, DataHub).
• Experience with AWS Sagemaker or Google Vertex AI.
• Experience with databases (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, InfluxDB).
• Experience with message brokers and streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Hands-on with Docker/Kubernetes and orchestration.
• Experience with CI/CD (GitLab CI).
• Programming in Python.
• Monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
• Understanding of DevOps and MLOps practices.
• Ability to translate requirements into scalable infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain data/ML platform infrastructure (ingestion, storage, processing, training).
• Ensure high availability, reliability, and uptime of the platform.
• Evolve vendor components into automated, multi-product ML platform.
• Build data workflows for dataset versioning, experiment tracking, and model lifecycle management.
• Enforce CI/CD, IaC, and automated workflows.
• Develop cloud-agnostic, containerized solutions across EU constraints.
• Optimize storage costs with tiered storage and retention strategies.
• Implement monitoring/alerting for pipelines and resources (Prometheus/Grafana).
• Ensure data governance, security, and compliance (access control, audit logs).
• Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and IT to meet needs.
• Manage budgets, approvals, and cost controls.
• Contribute to runbooks/docs for the platform.
