Job summary

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam seeks an EU Liaison Officer to lead Brussels representation and EU funding strategy. The role focuses on strengthening internal policy foundations and expanding visibility in Europe, with a future emphasis on alumni networks and external coalitions.

The successful candidate will have a master’s degree, 3+ years in EU funding or strategic partnerships, and strong advocacy, communication and networking skills, with willingness to travel including Brussels.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., European Studies, Public Policy, Innovation Management or International Relations).
• At least 3 years of EU funding acquisition or strategic partnerships experience with international consortia.
• In-depth knowledge of EU institutions and Horizon Europe funding programmes.
• Experience with advocacy, policy influence and representation in EU networks is a strong asset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; willingness to travel regularly including Brussels.

Responsibilities

• Identify funding opportunities in research & innovation through horizon scanning.
• Build momentum and support within VU for EU-related activities at central and faculty levels.
• Represent VU in Brussels, raising profile and advocacy for EU priorities.
• Develop internal networks (central and faculty) recognizing the value of EU work.
• Maintain contacts in Brussels with EC, EP, EUA, Aurora, Neth-ER and UNL.
• Over time, ensure VU representation in advisory/sounding-board groups and build coalitions for policy impact.
