Job summary

Vonk Schagen invites applications for a Biology teacher 0.5 FTE starting January 4, 2027. You will deliver inspiring lessons to lower secondary students (Years 1 and 2) and connect biology to health, sustainability and biodiversity.

You fit if you hold a second-grade biology teaching qualification (or are studying for it), have strong Dutch skills, good pedagogy, and enjoy collaborating with colleagues to develop the curriculum and ensure a safe, motivating classroom.

Qualifications

• Second-grade biology teaching qualification or currently studying for it.
• Strong pedagogical and teaching skills.
• Enthusiasm and commitment to work with colleagues to develop the curriculum for biology.
• Possibility to temporarily step in in other departments for limited hours.
• Good command of Dutch, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Deliver inspiring and engaging biology lessons to lower secondary students (Years 1 and 2).

Biology teacher

0.5 FTE (to replace until the summer holidays)

What will you do?

As a Biology teacher, you deliver inspiring and engaging lessons to lower secondary school students, especially in Years 1 and 2. You make students curious about humans, animals, plants and the environment and help them better understand the world around them. Through varied teachingmethods, practical investigations and engaging examples, you align with the worldviews of young people and encourage their investigative attitude. You guide students in their development of biological knowledge and skills and contribute to a safe and motivating learning environment. In addition, you work together with colleagues on the further development of education, with an eye towards contemporary themes such as health, sustainability, and biodiversity. In this way, you make an important contribution to the broad development of our students and their preparation for the upper grades of the vocational secondary education program (vmbo).

• a second-grade teaching qualification in biology (or you are studying for it);

• possibly broader deployment to temporarily step in in other departments in emergencies for a limited number of hours. Not a prerequisite, but nice to have;
• good command of the Dutch language both verbally and in writing.
