Job summary

AKIN is seeking a biocatalysis scientist to own enzyme performance at benchtop scale in Delft. You will develop assays and run studies showing enzyme variants on rubber substrates, collaborating with a chemical engineer to integrate processes and optimize product recovery.

The role includes small-scale in-house enzyme production and day-to-day lab coordination. You will work with external partners for analytics and scale-up, contribute to the R&D roadmap, and ensure data quality for iterative

Qualifications

• Hands-on assays with enzyme activity, kinetics and optimisation.
• Experience expressing/purifying recombinant proteins in bacterial/fungal hosts.
• Structured experimental mindset, DoE, clean data and rapid iteration.

Responsibilities

• Own enzyme performance on rubber substrates and run robust assays.
• Screen enzyme variants and provide feedback for design rounds.
• Connect reaction conditions to product profiles with process developers.
• Manage lab samples, qualifications of batches, and external analytics.
• Maintain cell banks and perform small-scale production for screening.
• Coordinate lab operations and ensure safety/compliance.
• Contribute to R&D roadmap, IP filings and grant reporting.
