Job summary

Diligent is seeking a hands-on Backend Engineer II to own features end-to-end for a Third Party Risk Management SaaS platform built with Laravel and PHP.

You’ll design scalable APIs, own stories from development to deployment, and mentor junior engineers while improving CI/CD and observability. Hybrid work is supported across global office hubs, with a focus on performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience in an agile, fast-paced environment.
• Strong experience with PHP and Laravel, ideally within the TALL stack (Tailwind, Alpine.js, Laravel, Livewire).
• Relational databases knowledge (MySQL or MariaDB), data modelling and query optimization.
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and system integrations.
• Practical experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms, plus Docker or container environments.
• Debugging production issues using logs, monitoring, and observability tools.
• Clear communication to discuss architecture and designs with engineers and non-engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend features and RESTful APIs in Laravel within a modern TALL stack environment.
• Own stories from implementation through deployment, monitoring, and iteration for performance and reliability.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decisions shaping the platform.
• Review code, improve test coverage, and strengthen CI/CD and standards.
• Mentor Software Engineer I colleagues through code reviews and sharing knowledge.
• Use AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate coding while validating outputs and ensuring safety.
