Job summary

SIRE LIFE SCIENCES in the Netherlands seeks an Automation Engineer to maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot automation systems in a regulated manufacturing environment. You will serve as a technical lead, supporting both maintenance and project initiatives to keep production running with minimal downtime.

The role requires a degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field, at least 3 years in GMP settings, and strong experience with PLCs, SCADA, and HMI.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor level degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in GMP-regulated manufacturing or packaging environments.
  • Strong experience with PLCs, SCADA, and HMI systems.
  • Knowledge of GMP standards and computerized system compliance.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work in shift-based operations with occasional off-hours.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced maintenance across mechanical, electrical, and computerized systems to support manufacturing operations.
  • Troubleshoot automation systems including PLCs, SCADA, and HMI.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation and system drawings.
  • Support GMP compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as first point of escalation for automation related issues.
  • Monitor performance of automation systems and optimize efficiency.
  • Provide training and coaching to maintenance technicians on automation topics.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure high service levels and customer satisfaction.

Role Description

The Automation Engineer role focuses on maintaining, optimizing, and troubleshooting automation systems within a regulated manufacturing environment. This position ensures seamless production operations with minimal downtime while maintaining compliance with established regulatory standards. You will act as a technical lead within the team, supporting both maintenance and project initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced maintenance across mechanical, electrical, and computerized systems to support manufacturing operations.
  • Troubleshoot automation systems including PLCs, SCADA, and HMI.
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation of daily work orders and maintenance records.
  • Support compliance with GMP standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation and system drawings.
  • Act as first point of escalation for automation related issues.
  • Monitor performance of automation systems and optimize efficiency.
  • Execute routine maintenance tasks such as backups, system access management, and audit reviews.
  • Support vendor interactions, including troubleshooting and remote access coordination.
  • Provide training and coaching to maintenance technicians on automation topics.
  • Support automation projects and system implementations within shift operations.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure high service levels and customer satisfaction.
Requirements
  • Degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field or equivalent hands on experience.
