Job summary

IFFR seeks an Audience Development & Community Programme Coordinator to design and run initiatives that grow diverse audiences in Rotterdam. You’ll lead the Audience Development Plan, work with both internal teams and external partners, and help embed DEI across all activities from Filmclub to special events.

You’ll coordinate year-round programmes, manage invitations and rights, and contribute to ambassador initiatives while ensuring inclusive participation across the city.

Qualifications

Audience Development & Community Programme Coordinator

International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) presents a leading film festival and year-round programme. We support new and adventurous filmmaking talent, also beyond the screening room, through initiatives such as CineMart, the Hubert Bals Fund, Rotterdam Lab and other industry activities.

In January each year, we bring together emerging and established filmmakers and artists from around the world to showcase a visionary programme of independent films, talks, exhibitions, performances, installations, immersive media and more. IFFR attracts over 300,000 visits to screenings and events annually. We also organise a range of film-related activities throughout the year, with our Filmclub and other collaborations with Rotterdam-based partners.

IFFR is seeking a passionate Audience Development & Community Programme Coordinator to coordinate the design and execution of initiatives that grow and diversify our audiences while strengthening community engagement across the city of Rotterdam. This role is central to the festival’s mission of cultural inclusivity, year-round relevance and meaningful participation from all segments of our society.

About the role

As the Audience Development & Community Programme Coordinator, you will work on a comprehensive Audience Development Plan that supports IFFR’s strategic goals. You’ll work closely with internal departments and external partners to drive community outreach, build partnerships, and engage new and existing audiences through innovative and inclusive programming.

You will be a key player in shaping our year-round presence, overseeing initiatives like Filmclub and Festival Specials, while embedding diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) at the core of all activities.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and execute the Audience Development Plan, ensuring alignment with IFFR’s mission and strategic goals, and integrating year-round programme initiatives such as Filmclub.
• Identify, build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders and organisations, building partnerships that increase IFFR’s relevance and visibility across diverse communities - with a clear emphasis on inclusivity and equitable representation of Rotterdam’s demographic.
• Coordinate the operational execution of audience-focused programmes, including Filmclub and some Festival Specials, in collaboration with Programme Operations and Marketing.
• Organise and deliver IFFR’s year-round activities end-to-end: managing film invitations, coordinating materials and rights clearance with filmmakers and rights holders, and overseeing timelines, logistics and communications with year-round programme partners and venues.
• Support the Coordinator Audience & Communities with the development of the Ambassador Programme, to align with overall audience development goals.

Who are you?

• You have at least 3-5 years of experience in community programming, audience engagement or cultural project management.
• You are passionate about inclusion, cultural access and film.
• You’re a strategic thinker with hands-on coordination skills and the ability to manage multiple programmes simultaneously.
• You are confident working collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
• You understand the cultural landscape of Rotterdam and are eager to engage with its diverse communities.
• Excellent communication skills in English are essential. Additional Dutch language skills are highly desirable.

• Salary in accordance with scale 6 of the Ketentafel Filmfestivals: €3,077 to €3,644 gross per month based on full-time employment. Placement within this range depends on relevant experience.
