Job summary

Leiden University’s Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) invites applications for an Associate Professor of Diplomacy, International Relations and International Organization. The appointee will conduct high-impact research, teach within the MSc program, and lead research initiatives.

The successful candidate will supervise theses, design courses, and engage in public debates, strengthening ISGA’s teaching and grant activity in a growing academic landscape in The Hague.

Qualifications

• PhD in related field as stated.
• Proven track record in publishing in leading international journals in diplomacy, IR, and IO.
• Ability to secure individual and/or collaborative research grants.
• Excellent teaching capabilities across diplomacy, IR and IO.
• English proficiency and willingness to attain Dutch fluency within two years.

Responsibilities

• Conduct high-visibility, independent research in diplomacy, IR, and IO, developing a strong research program.
• Publish in leading international outlets and attract substantial grants.
• Lead a team of junior scholars in research and grant acquisition.
• Play a leading role in research or education accreditations.
• Deliver high-quality teaching on theory and practice of diplomacy and related topics.
• Supervise master-level theses.
• Design new courses and lead/ reform education programs.
• Participate in ISGA committees related to teaching programs.
• Contribute to public debates through writing and media engagement on key issues.
