Job summary

Rosewood Amsterdam is seeking an Assistant Director of Engineering to support the Director of Engineering in leading all aspects of the hotel's engineering operation. You will oversee maintenance programs, capital projects, and the operation of building systems to ensure guest comfort and safety.

You will mentor the engineering team, drive preventive maintenance, and collaborate with operations and external partners to uphold the highest standards of safety and sustainability across the property.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an Engineering leadership role within a luxury hotel, resort, or hospitality environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, kitchen, and laundry equipment.
  • Inspiring leader who coaches, develops, and motivates engineering professionals.
  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs, asset management, and engineering best practices.
  • Highly organized with excellent project management and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective cross-functional communication and collaboration with operations and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Engineering in managing daily operation of the engineering department and facilities.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team to achieve objectives and foster continuous improvement.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Support capital expenditure projects, renovations, and refurbishment initiatives.
  • Monitor performance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, kitchen, laundry, and building management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage departmental budgets, procurement, service contracts, and cost-control initiatives.
  • Drive sustainability and energy conservation programs to improve operations.

YOUR ROLE

As Assistant Director of Engineering, you will support the Director of Engineering in leading all aspects of the hotel's engineering operation. Through your technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic approach, you will oversee preventive maintenance programs, support capital projects, and ensure the effective operation of all building systems and facilities. Acting as a key leader within the department, you will help drive operational efficiency, asset protection, sustainability initiatives, and compliance while ensuring a safe and exceptional environment for guests and associates alike.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE THE PLACE
  • Support the Director of Engineering in managing the daily operation of the Engineering department and maintaining hotel facilities to the highest standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team to achieve departmental objectives and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the preventive maintenance program to maximize equipment reliability and minimize operational downtime.
  • Support the planning and execution of capital expenditure projects, renovations, and refurbishment initiatives.
  • Monitor the performance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, life safety, kitchen, laundry, and building management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while promoting best engineering practices.
  • Manage departmental budgets, procurement activities, service contracts, and cost-control initiatives.
  • Drive sustainability and energy conservation programs to improve operational performance and support environmental goals.

  • You have experience in an Engineering leadership role within a luxury hotel, resort, or hospitality environment.
  • You possess strong technical knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, kitchen, and laundry equipment.
  • You are an inspiring leader who enjoys coaching, developing, and motivating engineering professionals.
  • You have a strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs, asset management, and engineering best practices.
  • You are highly organized, with excellent project management, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • You communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and collaborate successfully with operational teams and external partners.
  • You are proficient in engineering management systems, building management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • You hold a relevant technical qualification, engineering diploma, or degree and are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
