Job summary

APM Terminals Maasvlakte II (MVII) is seeking a Test Engineer to lead testing and commissioning of automated crane systems at the Rotterdam terminal. You will validate ABB/KUENZ integrations, ensure safety compliance, and drive robust test documentation while collaborating with OEMs,CareGo and project teams.

The role requires 3–5 years of commissioning experience with automated heavy equipment, PLC/SCADA familiarity, and fluency in Dutch and English.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, (Port)Logistics).
  • 3–5 years’ experience in commissioning/testing of automated heavy equipment.
  • some experience with PLC/SCADA systems, drives, and crane automation.
  • Knowledge of safety standards (EN, IEC, ISO).
  • Hands‑on experience with live equipment testing and/or Site Acceptance Testing.
  • Familiarity with highly automated environments (e.g. terminals, factories, or distribution centers).
  • Knowledge of test methodologies and tools especially in Jira/X‑ray.
  • Strong knowledge of systems used in container terminals such as TOS and ECS.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
  • As regular on‑site presence is required, you must be able to travel reliably to the terminal location.

Responsibilities

  • Testing & Commissioning: Prepare Site Acceptance Tests (SAT). Coordinate the functional, performance, and reliability tests on crane systems. Validate automation integration with ABB control systems, Kuenz hardware, and TOS. Verify compliance with safety systems (emergency stops, collision avoidance, obstruction detection). Test crane performance parameters (lift speed, trolley travel, gantry travel).
  • Integration & Systems Testing: Collaborate with automation teams to test remote control and unmanned operations. Validate synchronization between ARMGs, AGVs/Lift‑AGVs, and yard management systems. Support digital twin/simulation testing prior to live deployment.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Develop and maintain test plans, procedures, and checklists. Record and analyze test results; report deviations and corrective actions. Provide test certificates and commissioning sign‑off documentation. Contribute to risk assessments and safety documentation.
  • Collaboration: Work with OEM suppliers (Kuenz, ABB), contractors (CareGo consortium), and APMT project teams. Support training for terminal staff in operations and maintenance. Act as a technical liaison between commissioning teams, operations, and client representatives.

Similarly, the organization is being developed to be fit for the future expanded terminal. Delivering a fully integrated, commissioned, and operational terminal to a trained operations team is a key objective.

Key Responsibilities
  • Testing & Commissioning
