Job description

Data & Analytics Manager | Greenfield Data Transformation

Some travel across the Netherlands, Germany and France

We are partnering with an established European leisure and hospitality business entering a major period of growth, investment and technology transformation following recent private equity backing.

The organisation operates multiple locations across the Netherlands, France and Germany, but its data capability has not yet developed at the same pace as the wider business.

They are now hiring a Data & Analytics Manager to become the senior data lead for the organisation and build its enterprise data capability from the ground up.

This is a genuinely greenfield opportunity.

There is currently no consolidated enterprise data platform. Reporting remains heavily reliant on Excel, information is spread across several operational and commercial systems, and different areas of the organisation are working with multiple versions of the truth.

The first priority is to establish the foundations.

You will define the enterprise data strategy, assess the existing landscape and help determine the future platform direction. Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake and other options are being considered, so the business is looking for someone platform-agnostic who can objectively evaluate the available solutions and recommend the right approach.

You will report directly to the IT Director and operate at the intersection of technology, the business and external delivery.

A specialist data partner will support the design, development and ongoing evolution of the platform. Your role will be to provide direction, translate business requirements into a clear technical roadmap and ensure the partner delivers the right outcomes.

This is not a role for someone who wants to personally build every pipeline. Equally, they are not looking for a purely strategic manager who has moved too far away from the technology.

You will need the technical credibility to:

  • Understand modern cloud data platforms and analytics ecosystems
  • Evaluate data architecture, data warehousing and integration approaches
  • Provide direction across ETL and ELT pipelines, APIs and data modelling
  • Assess platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake or comparable technologies
  • Understand business intelligence, reporting and visualisation environments
  • Challenge vendors, implementation partners and proposed technical solutions
  • Identify when platforms or architectures are being overengineered
  • Translate technical decisions into clear commercial and operational value
  • Recognise what strong data engineering, governance and analytics delivery looks like

Your wider responsibilities will include:

  • Defining the enterprise Data & Analytics strategy
  • Supporting the selection and implementation of the future data platform
  • Owning the enterprise data model and analytics architecture
  • Managing and governing the external data platform partner
  • Establishing data governance, ownership and stewardship responsibilities
  • Improving data quality, consistency and accessibility
  • Developing Master Data Management practices across customers, employees, suppliers and assets
  • Creating a trusted source of business information
  • Improving management reporting and enabling self-service analytics
  • Supporting metadata management and enterprise data standards
  • Ensuring data solutions align with information security and privacy requirements
  • Prioritising the roadmap across immediate and long-term business requirements
  • Building the foundations for future AI, machine learning and advanced analytics use cases
  • Managing and developing a small internal team across data engineering and BI

The business is open to candidates already operating in a Data & Analytics Manager position, but this could also be an excellent first formal leadership role for a strong Data Architect, Technical Lead, Senior Consultant or Implementation Lead.

You are likely to bring experience across several of the following areas:

  • Data engineering and integration
  • Data warehousing
  • ETL and ELT
  • Business intelligence and reporting
  • Data quality management
  • APIs and system integration
  • Self-service analytics
  • Data security and privacy
  • AI and machine learning

Consultancy or implementation experience would be particularly valuable. You may have supported different organisations through platform selection, data transformation, governance or analytics modernisation and now want the opportunity to own the long-term strategy and outcomes internally.

Experience within hospitality, leisure, retail or another multi-site operational environment would be useful, but it is not essential.

More important is the ability to create clarity in an evolving environment, communicate confidently with non-technical stakeholders and challenge the business constructively when priorities or expectations need to be reset.

This opportunity offers:

  • Genuine ownership of a greenfield data transformation
  • Direct influence over the future platform and architecture
  • Visibility with senior leadership
  • The opportunity to build a small internal data function
  • A private equity-backed environment with investment and growth ambitions
  • A credible route from technical leadership into broader management

The role is based in Roelofarendsveen, between Leiden, Amsterdam and The Hague. It is realistically commutable from Leiden, Hoofddorp, Schiphol, Alphen aan den Rijn, The Hague, Haarlem and Amsterdam, particularly by car.

The successful person will be expected on-site at least three days per week, especially during the first year, as building relationships with the business will be central to establishing the new data capability.

Some travel across the organisation’s locations in the Netherlands, Germany and France will also be required.
