Job summary

Tessa.Care in Rotterdam is seeking an AI Engineer to design, build, and improve AI models powering the Tessa social healthcare assistant.

You will work on data pipelines, model training, evaluation and deployment, collaborating with software engineers, designers, and healthcare stakeholders to translate user needs into robust features. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Rotterdam.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI, ML or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong CS foundation with data structures and algorithms.
  • Hands-on with pattern recognition and neural networks, including model design and optimization.
  • Practical NLP knowledge, esp. in dialogue systems or assistive tech.
  • Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Ability to work in a hybrid Rotterdam environment and communicate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in healthcare, assistive tech, or human-centered AI is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and improve AI models powering Tessa and future assistants.

Role Description

As an Artificial Intelligence Engineer at Tessa.Care , you will design, build, and improve AI models that power Tessa and future social healthcare assistants. You will work on data processing pipelines, model training, evaluation, and deployment, collaborating closely with software engineers, designers, and healthcare stakeholders to translate user needs into robust AI features. Day-to-day, you will experiment with algorithms, optimize performance for real-world usage, and contribute to scalable, maintainable code within the product stack. You will also participate in code reviews, documentation, and iterative improvement based on user feedback and clinical insights. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Rotterdam, with a combination of on-site collaboration and work from home.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in Computer Science and Software Development, including data structures, algorithms, and writing production-grade code.
  • Hands-on experience with Pattern Recognition and Neural Networks, including model design, training, and optimization.
  • Practical knowledge of Natural Language Processing (NLP), preferably in dialogue systems, conversational agents, or assistive technologies.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in a modern programming language commonly used in AI (e.g., Python) and familiarity with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment in Rotterdam, communicate clearly with multidisciplinary teams, and collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in healthcare, assistive technology, or human-centered AI, and an interest in social impact and ethical AI, is highly beneficial.
