As a Design Engineer, you will drive the full product development lifecycle in a demanding aerospace environment, collaborating with stress, systems, certification, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust, compliant engineering solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 2–5 years of experience in mechanical design (aerospace or high-tech).
  • Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of CATIA V5 and/or SolidWorks; GD&T and tolerance analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CATIA and/or SolidWorks.
  • Design and detail aircraft interior components and structural assemblies (metallic and composite).
  • Perform conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design activities per customer specs.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, define concepts, and optimize systems for cost and manufacturability.
  • Apply DFM/DFA principles to ensure efficient industrialization and design reviews.

Job description

SII Netherlands is a fast-growing engineering and consulting company based in Haarlem, specialized in mechanical design, stress analysis, and certification activities across aerospace and high-tech industries.

We support leading clients on complex projects ranging from aircraft structures and interiors to space and defense systems, delivering full lifecycle engineering services—from concept to certification.

Your Role

As a Design Engineer, you will be involved in the full product development lifecycle, from early concept definition to detailed design and industrialization, in a demanding and highly regulated aerospace environment.

You will work in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams (stress, systems, certification, manufacturing) to deliver robust and optimized engineering solutions.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop high-quality 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CATIA and/or SolidWorks
  • Design and detail aircraft interior components and structural assemblies (metallic and composite)
  • Perform conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design activities in compliance with customer specifications
  • Conduct feasibility studies, define design concepts, and optimize existing systems (cost, weight, manufacturability)
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles to ensure efficient industrialization
  • Participate in design reviews (PDR, CDR) and provide technical justifications
  • Manage and coordinate interfaces between systems and stakeholders, ensuring integration consistency
  • Prepare and review technical and certification documentation in line with aerospace standards (EASA environment when applicable)
  • Support prototype manufacturing, assembly, and testing phases, including troubleshooting and design improvements
  • Perform tolerance analysis and stack-up calculations to ensure performance and reliability of assemblies
Your Profile
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in mechanical design (aerospace or high-tech industry)
  • Strong expertise in CATIA V5 and/or SolidWorks
  • Good knowledge of aircraft structures, interiors, or mechanical systems
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, composites, assembly)
  • Experience in GD&T, tolerance management, and design optimization
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards and certification constraints is a strong plus
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
  • Fluent in English, Dutch is a plus
