Job summary

Airswift is seeking a Welding Engineer to support offshore pipeline and structural installation projects in the energy sector. The role focuses on welding activities across project preparation and execution, ensuring technical quality and installation performance while collaborating with welding, NDT, coating, QC, and operations teams.

The successful candidate will have an engineering degree and 2–7 years of welding/NDT/QC experience in oil & gas, with relevant certifications.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering, preferably welding, mechanical, materials or metallurgy.
  • Essential: Welding engineer certification (AWS/CEng) or equivalent.
  • 2–7 years in welding, NDT and QC in oil & gas.
  • Strong knowledge of welding, NDT, metallurgy for offshore pipeline/structural work.
  • Experience with pipeline systems, subsea, offshore/onshore installation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage welding engineering and welding operations for project execution.
  • Review welding, NDT, line pipe, and FJC/CQ documentation.
  • Prepare and review welding procedures, method statements, and weld maps.
  • Develop robust welding procedures to maximise offshore production.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise installation productivity.
  • Provide technical solutions for welding, NDT and QC issues.
  • Support project prep/execution deliverables and lessons learned.
  • Monitor project cost and schedule performance.

Welding Engineer Position Overview

This Welding Engineer opportunity is suited to a technically strong professional looking to support complex engineering project delivery in the energy sector. The Welding Engineer will play a key role in managing welding activities across project preparation and execution, with a focus on technical quality, installation performance, and problem resolution. This Welding Engineer position offers exposure to demanding offshore pipeline and structural work, working closely with multidisciplinary teams across welding, NDT, coating, QC, and operations. The Welding Engineer will contribute directly to project performance, technical improvement, and successful delivery outcomes.

Role Context

This role sits within the energy sector and supports major Oil & Gas project delivery in a technically demanding engineering environment. The position is focused on offshore pipeline and structural installation work, including project qualification and execution activities. The Welding Engineer will work closely with welding, NDT, FJC, QC, and operations teams as part of project execution and departmental technical support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage welding engineering and welding operations activities for project execution, including coordination with project and client-facing teams.
  • Review project specifications and technical documentation related to welding, NDT, line pipe, and field joint coating activities.
  • Prepare and review welding procedures, method statements, execution plans, schedules, weld maps, and qualification and installation documentation.
  • Develop robust welding procedures to maximise offshore production and reduce weld repairs and cut-outs.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimise installation productivity and improve cycle time performance.
  • Provide technical solutions for qualification and installation issues relating to welding, NDT, and quality control.
  • Support project preparation and execution deliverables, including close-out reporting, production performance analysis, and lessons learned.
  • Monitor project cost and schedule performance against planned delivery requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential: Degree in an engineering discipline, preferably welding, mechanical, materials, or metallurgy.
  • Essential: International Welding Engineer, AWS Certified Welding Engineer, Chartered Engineer in Welding Engineering, or equivalent certification.
  • Essential: Minimum 2 to 7 years of experience in welding, NDT, and quality control within the oil and gas industry.
  • Essential: Strong knowledge of welding, NDT, metallurgy, and QC for offshore pipeline and structural applications.
  • Essential: Experience with pipeline systems, subsea structures, and offshore or onshore structural installation.
  • Essential: Ability to manage technical issues, organise work effectively, report progress clearly, and support cost and schedule delivery.
  • Desirable: CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2 certification.
  • Desirable: NDT certifications.
  • Desirable: Coating certifications.
  • Desirable: Experience in project bidding or tendering and team leadership within a technical environment.
