About the role

Acuvet Veterinary Clinic is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a pivotal role within our clinic that supports our veterinary professionals in delivering high-quality care to our animal patients. Based in Penang Island, Penang, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth operation of our clinic whilst maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and safety. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in veterinary medicine whilst making a tangible difference in the lives of animals in our community.

Key responsibilities

Assisting veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures

Preparing examination rooms and sterilising instruments and equipment to maintain strict hygiene standards

Handling and restraining animals safely during procedures whilst ensuring their comfort and wellbeing

Administering medications and taking blood samples as directed by veterinarians

Maintaining detailed and accurate medical records for all patients

Cleaning and disinfecting clinic areas, cages, and kennels to prevent cross-contamination

Providing post-operative care and monitoring animal recovery following procedures

Assisting with laboratory work, including sample analysis and diagnostic testing

Communicating compassionately with pet owners regarding their animal's care and treatment plans

Managing clinic supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained

Supporting the general operations of the clinic to ensure efficient daily functioning

What we're looking for

Excellent manual dexterity and ability to handle animals with skill, gentleness, and confidence

Physical fitness and stamina, as the role involves standing for extended periods and lifting animals and equipment

Meticulous attention to detail, particularly when maintaining medical records and following treatment protocols

Outstanding communication skills, both with veterinary staff and pet owners

A genuine passion for animal welfare and commitment to providing compassionate care

Ability to work effectively within a team environment whilst also managing responsibilities independently

Familiarity with veterinary clinic software and computer systems is advantageous
