The University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) seeks a Bus Driver to operate campus shuttle buses and vans on scheduled routes and special trips. You will ensure passenger safety, complete pre-trip checks, and maintain accurate records under JPJ guidelines.
Role requires a valid Class E and PSV license, 10 years of driving experience, and willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays. English/Bahasa Melayu proficiency is preferred.
The University Bus Driver plays a vital frontline role in keeping the UoSM community safely connected, punctual, and mobile. The driver serves as an everyday ambassador of the institution, ensuring that students, staff, and visitors experience safe, reliable, and comfortable transit across campus location, hostel, transit hubs and designated pick-up/drop-off points. By upholding the highest standards of road safety, vehicle readiness, and regulatory compliance under Malaysian transport guidelines, this role directly supports uninterrupted daily academic operations, official university events, and a secure, inclusive campus environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate university shuttle buses/vans on scheduled routes and ad-hoc trips (e.g., field trips, event transport, airport transfers) in accordance with assigned timetables
Drive for authorized university events, meeting, field trips, and conferences across states when assigned in Malaysia and Singapore
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (tyres, air conditioning, brakes, lights, fluid levels, cleanliness and emergency exit) and report any defects or maintenance needs promptly
Maintain accurate records: daily mileage logs, fuel usage, passenger counts, touch n go, parking and incident reports
Ensure passengers board and disembark safely and assist passengers with special needs where required
Ensure the bus interior and exterior are kept clean and orderly; report mechanical faults or servicing requirements immediately to the Line manager
Coordinate with the Transport Supervisor on scheduling changes, route adjustments, or emergencies
Respond appropriately to breakdowns, accidents, or emergencies, following university protocols and notifying relevant parties immediately
Comply with all Malaysian road transport regulations (JPJ) and university transport policies
Support out-of-hours or weekend duties for university events as required
Good knowledge of local roads and routes
Clean driving record with no major traffic offences or criminal records.
Requirements
Valid Malaysian driving license Class E (for buses)
Valid vocational license (PSV-Public Service Vehicle) for carrying passengers commercially issued by JPJ
Minimum 10 years of proven driving experience, preferably with passenger vehicles or institutional/corporate transport
Must pass mandatory annual medical examinations (JPJ L8A/medical checkup) for eyesight, cardiovascular health, and drug/alcohol screenings
Basic proficiency in conversational English and/or Bahasa Melayu to communicate effectively with local and international students
Safety consciousness and adherence to procedures
Reliability and punctuality
Willingness to work on rotating shifts, early mornings, late nights, weekends, and public holidays as required by academic schedules
