Job summary

Pengerang Terminals Sdn Bhd is seeking a Technician to support the SHE team in implementing environmental, safety, and health policies. The role includes assisting with training, safe handling of hazardous materials, and overseeing terminal operations including jetty areas.

The candidate will coordinate firefighting system maintenance and support emergency preparedness across the PTSB site, with a strong focus on compliance and safety training delivery.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Science or Safety is advantageous.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a related field; fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Familiarity with OSHA 1994 and related regulations (OSHA 1997/2004/1996 regs).
• NIOSH Safety Certificate is required or advantageous.
• Registered Safety & Health Officer (SHO) with DOSH is a plus.
• Knowledge of Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Fluent in English and Bahasa Melayu; additional languages a plus.
• Able to conduct presentations and deliver safety-related training.

Responsibilities

• Site Inspection & Monitoring: conduct routine workplace inspections of machinery, jetties, and equipment to identify hazards and ensure safe operation.
• Operational Safety & PTW Control: administer and verify the Permit to Work system for high-risk activities; ensure readiness of gas monitoring equipment.
• Systems, Compliance & Ethics: support IMS implementation; uphold PTSB values; assist with waste management and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with SHE team to prepare reports and maintain records for ERP and emergency response activities.

Job description

We are seeking a Technician to support the SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) team in implementing PTSB environmental, safety, security, and health policies and procedures also will be responsible for assisting with SHE training programs, ensuring safe handling and transfer of hazardous materials, and overseeing terminal operations, including jetty areas. The role also includes coordinating firefighting system maintenance services and supporting overall emergency preparedness activities across the PTSB site.

Key Responsibilities :

Site Inspection & Monitoring

Conduct routine workplace inspections to identify hazards and ensure machinery (including fire engines and pumps), jetties, and equipment are safe and fit for operation.

Perform daily monitoring of contractors and cleaning activities to ensure proper terminal housekeeping and compliance with SHE requirements.

Coordinate with the SHE Engineer on daily terminal safety monitoring activities and submit accurate reports.

Monitor and follow up on inspections and maintenance schedules for environmental discharge points, eye wash/safety showers, and firefighting equipment to ensure compliance and operational readiness.

Operational Safety & PTW Control

Administer and verify the Permit to Work (PTW) system to ensure all high-risk activities are properly authorized and controlled.

Assist in ensuring the readiness and proper functioning of gas monitoring equipment for hot work, confined space entry, and other high-risk operations.

Monitor site activities to ensure full compliance with SHE rules, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Guide and support operational teams in implementing safe work practices in accordance with PTSB SHEQ Management System and applicable legal requirements.

Assist the SHE Engineer in both scheduled and ad‑hoc waste management activities, including waste inventory control, preparation of work instructions, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Monitor and update inventory records for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and firefighting equipment to ensure adequate stock and readiness.

Coordinate and prepare equipment and materials required for Emergency Response Plan (ERP) activities and oil spill response training.

Maintain proper records and ensure all portable firefighting equipment is inspected, well-maintained, and compliant with statutory requirements.

Systems, Compliance & Ethics

Support the implementation and maintenance of the Integrated Management System (IMS) to ensure full compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Uphold and promote PTSB’s values and principles in all SHE‑related matters.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the SHEQ Manager and/or SHE Engineer as required.

Requirement/Skills :

A Diploma in Science, Safety or equivalent qualification will be an added advantage.

Well‑versed in OSHA 1994 and its related regulations, including:

Occupational Safety & Health (Safety and Health Officer) Regulations 1997

Occupational Safety & Health (Notification of Accident, Dangerous Occurrence, Occupational Poisoning and Occupational Disease) Regulations 2004

Occupational Safety & Health (Safety and Health Committee) Regulations 1996

Possess a NIOSH Safety Certificate.

Registered Safety & Health Officer (SHO) with DOSH will be an added advantage.

Knowledge of Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Fluent in both written and spoken English and Bahasa Melayu. Proficiency in additional languages will be an added advantage.
