Job summary

Coherent in Penang is seeking a production test technician to assist engineers in achieving yield targets and reduce scrap costs, while improving First Pass Yield in mass production of optical devices.

The role requires a diploma or degree in engineering, 1–2 years in optical testing, familiarity with test instruments such as spectrum analyzers and power meters, and ability to work in shift rotations; training and growth opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering as specified.
• 1–2 years of experience in optical device testing/repair in mass production.
• Familiar with test instruments including spectrum analyzer, optical power meter and oscilloscopes.
• Willingness to work on shift rotations, weekends, or on-call schedules.
• Ability to configure communication interfaces (GPIB, LAN, USB) and verify test software integrity.
• Basic knowledge of optical devices and circuit diagrams; able to work independently with support when needed.

Responsibilities

Job description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To assist the product engineer in terms of product family in achieving yield target; scrap cost target, debug accuracy target & lean projects eval.
• Conduct schedule daily verification and path loss calibration to ensure optimal performance and measurement accuracy.
• Participate in software and hardware installation for new tester setup and tester conversion.
• Validate failures encountered during production and apply effective corrective action to improve Product First Pass Yield.
• Create step-by-step troubleshooting procedures and quick-reference guides to have a reference for other technicians in resolving common issues.
• Ensure all test stations are functional and reduce production tester downtime.
• Assist Engineer in shift and involve for any project and test improvement.
• Compliance to ISO Requirements, company rules & regulations, applicable codes etc.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Optoelectronics or Telecommunications).
• At least 1-2 years of experience in optical device testing/repair related industry and in mass production environment.
• Knowledgeable in operating and maintaining different test instruments including spectrum analyzer, optical power meter and oscilloscopes.
• Willingness to work on shift rotations, weekends, or on-call maintenance schedules when needed.
• Ability to perform and configure communication interfaces (GPIB, LAN, USB) and verify test software integrity.
• Familiar with basic knowledge and principle of optical devices.
• Candidates without appropriate experience may be accepted by the hiring manager subject to job nature, availability of buddy, duration of learning, etc.
• With good computer literacy, good communication skill and reporting of information/ data.
• Familiar with circuit diagrams and a strong background in Electronics.
• Can work independently and work with support teams as needed.
• Has basic knowledge of optical circuit, circuit analysis, problem solving and master the use of optical module test instruments.
