Job summary

AGOS ASIA SDN BHD, based in Kuala Lumpur, seeks an experienced Tax Manager to lead international tax advisory and compliance across jurisdictions. You will support tenders, cross-border transactions and tax filings, coordinating with Finance, Legal and Operations teams.

The role requires strong knowledge of tax treaties, PE risks and IFRS tax accounting, with the ability to communicate complex issues to non-tax stakeholders. This is a senior in-house opportunity in a multinational setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Law, Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant corporate and international tax experience, preferably from a Big 4 firm, law firm and/or in-house tax function within a multinational organisation.
  • Strong technical knowledge of international tax, including tax treaties, withholding taxes, permanent establishment risks and cross-border structuring.
  • Hands-on experience with tax audits, enquiries and/or disputes, including dealing with tax authorities.
  • Experience advising on the tax aspects of contracts, projects, tenders or commercial transactions is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of tax accounting under IFRS, including current tax, deferred tax and effective tax rate analysis.
  • Familiarity with transfer pricing, Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR) and Pillar Two / Global Minimum Tax (GMT).
  • Strong Excel and data-handling skills. Experience with NetSuite ERP is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with good attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, as English is the working language of the Group.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions, countries and time zones.

Job description

We are assisting our client, a leading multinational organisation with a global presence across more than 15 jurisdictions, to identify an experienced and self-driven Tax Manager to join their Kuala Lumpur office.

The role forms part of the Group Finance / Group Tax function and provides an opportunity to work on a broad range of international tax matters, including tax advisory, cross-border transactions, tax compliance, tax audits and disputes, tax reporting and global tax initiatives.

You will work closely with international Finance, Legal, Operations, Business Development and Tendering teams, providing practical tax advice and supporting the Group's tax affairs across multiple jurisdictions.

The ideal candidate is a strong self-starter who is comfortable working independently, takes ownership of tax matters and can communicate complex tax issues clearly to both tax and non-tax stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
International Tax Advisory & Commercial Support

1. Provide tax analysis and advice on tenders, ongoing projects, contracts and commercial transactions.

2. Advise on international tax matters, including tax treaties, withholding taxes, permanent establishment (PE) risks and contract structuring.

3. Identify and evaluate tax alternatives and provide practical recommendations to support business decisions.

4. Work closely with Finance, Legal, Operations and Business Development/Tendering teams on tax-related matters.

Tax Audits & Disputes

1. Manage tax audits, enquiries and disputes with tax authorities across relevant jurisdictions.

2. Develop technical tax positions and prepare responses, submissions and appeals where required.

3. Coordinate with local Finance teams, external tax advisors and legal counsel in handling tax authority matters.

4. Monitor tax audits and disputes and ensure appropriate follow-up and resolution.

Cross-Border Tax & Structuring

1. Provide tax advice on cross-border business activities and transactions.

2. Support tax matters relating to entity set-ups and closures, acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and related due diligence.

3. Monitor the Group's legal entity structure and relevant tax regimes and recommend changes where appropriate.

4. Identify opportunities to improve tax efficiency and operational flexibility while maintaining compliance with applicable tax requirements.

Tax Compliance & Reporting

1. Coordinate the Group's corporate tax compliance and reporting requirements across multiple jurisdictions.

2. Work with local Finance teams and external tax service providers to ensure accurate and timely tax filings.

3. Review and monitor tax computations, working papers and supporting documentation.

4. Support Group-level tax reporting, including tax provisions, current and deferred tax and effective tax rate (ETR) analysis under IFRS.

5. Ensure appropriate documentation and controls are maintained for tax compliance and reporting activities.

Transfer Pricing & Related Reporting

1. Support the Group's transfer pricing activities in coordination with the relevant tax resources.

2. Support Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR) requirements.

3. Support the Group's Pillar Two / Global Minimum Tax (GMT) processes and related requirements.

4. Coordinate with relevant internal teams and external advisors on international tax reporting and compliance matters.

Tax Legislation & Regulatory Compliance

1. Monitor changes in tax legislation, tax treaties, rulings and relevant case law across the Group's operating jurisdictions.

2. Assess the impact of tax developments on existing tax positions and business operations.

3. Recommend and assist in implementing appropriate actions in response to changes in tax requirements.

4. Maintain relevant tax documentation, procedures and internal guidance.

Tax Data, Systems & Process Improvement

1. Extract, analyse and validate tax-related financial data from ERP systems, including NetSuite, SAP or Oracle, where required.

2. Work with Finance and Controllership teams to ensure accurate tax data flow and reporting.

3. Utilise strong Excel and data-handling skills to support tax analysis, reporting and compliance activities.

4. Identify opportunities to improve, standardise and automate tax processes and controls.

5. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Group Tax function.

Stakeholder & External Advisor Management

1. Liaise with local Finance teams, regional tax teams and external tax advisors across different jurisdictions.

2. Manage relationships with external tax advisors and contribute to quality and cost-effective delivery.

3. Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Operations, Business Development and other internal stakeholders on tax-related matters.

4. Communicate complex tax matters clearly and effectively to non-tax stakeholders.

5. Work effectively across different cultures, jurisdictions and time zones.
