OVERALL SCOPE OF JOB DESRIPTION

The Datai Langkawi is looking for a skilled Sustainability Officer to undertake a variety of day-to-day office and sustainability related operations.

Under the general guidance of the QCI Manager and Assistant Manager Sustainability, and within the limits of The Datai Langkawi policies and procedures, you will be an integral part of the QCI Sustainability team.

You will ensure that the sustainability standards are well implemented and operated in a consistent manner to ensure the environmental efforts of the property are well in accordance with The Datai core values. An excellent Sustainability Officer is, above all, an organized and competent professional with good computer and communication skills.

The ideal candidate will have a friendly and easy-going personality while also being disciplined and computer skills oriented. You should be able to deal with multitude tasks and dealing with various operating departments

SPECIFIC DUTIES & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Retrieve, record, analyze and disseminate information from all the sustainability initiatives
2. Identify root causes of problem areas in conjunction with the respective sustainability related operations / initiatives
3. Work along with the QCI Manager and Assistant Manager Sustainability by initiating new sustainability actions by the hotel to ensure deadlines are met and overall results achieved. Creativity and organization will be important skills.
4. Prepare monthly sustainability reports to be submitted to QCI Manager related on all sustainability initiatives with analysis and areas for improvements
5. Coordinate with QCI Manager and Assistant Manager Sustainability operational needs, budget monitoring, strategic planning and any other sustainability projects
6. Oversee, review and update sustainability Standard Operating Procedures & Policies at the resort with the QCI manager and Assistant Manager Sustainability
7. Work along with the QCI Manager, Assistant Manager Sustainability, Sustainability Steward Supervisor and The Lab Supervisor to implement sustainability procedures which enhance and elevate the Guest experience
8. Support Sustainability Steward Supervisor and The Lab Supervisor in supervising sustainability operations – Dry and food waste separation system, Permaculture Garden, waste water treatment, upcycling, In house water plant, sustainability activities, The Asher etc.
9. Work closely with Assistant Manager Sustainability and The Garden team in coordinating and driving projects and operations
10. Monitor performance of the sustainability initiatives and suggest for improvements
11. Support the QCI Manager and Assistant Manager Sustainability with sustainability initiatives in coordinating projects, meetings and any administrative tasks
12. Carry out any other tasks/duties as requested by the QCI Manager and Assistant Manager Sustainability when required
13. Promote sustainability initiatives within the resort associates and raise continuous awareness
14. Take part of sustainability trainings and assist Learning & Training Manager in conducting and organizing trainings / awareness session
15. Create infographic on sustainability when required
16. Coordinate upcycling programme and operations
17. Coordinate continuous sustainable projects and development
18. Ensure Guest interaction and promote sustainability initiatives with tour visits
19. Coordinate Carbon Benchmarking initiatives and Earth Check programme and to be well familiarize with Carbon Emission Tools and Earth Check software. Ensuring all the required data is submitted on the platform, monitoring, and analyzing the data ensuring target is achievable.
20. Being in charge of sustainability operations in the absence of Assistant Manager Sustainability.
21. Participate in local community sustainability related events mainly in Langkawi (outside Langkawi if needed) representing Datai Pledge – Pure for the Future.
22. Ensure creative thinking and constant researches to develop new collaborations with local artisans and merchandises.
23. Develop connection with local artisans / sustainability players in Langkawi and organise visits.
24. Establishes and maintains high permaculture standards and practices on Permaculture Garden
25. Achieve targets / deadlines planned by QCI Manager and Assistant Manager Sustainability.
26. Record all data of the Permaculture initiatives (worm casting, feeding, water irrigation, compost, fertilizer, herbs and fruits harvesting, seedling and soil testing) monthly and disseminate to Assistant Manager Sustainability.
27. Work along with the Assistant Manager Sustainability to implement procedures which enhance the Guest experience.
28. To be guest and quality oriented.
29. To conduct or assist any activity related with The Garden and Sustainability eg: Permaculture Walk, Bee A Beekeeper, Little Gardener, Cooking Class, and Insect Repellent Workshop. If needed in the case of manpower shortage, the candidate also need to be able to do all The Lab activities.
30. To order supplies in Procurement Birchstreet system and deal directly with Procurement and Supplier when necessary
