Job summary

Cohu Malaysia is seeking a Supplier Quality Team Leader to drive supplier quality excellence across our manufacturing base. You will lead a team of Supplier Quality Engineers and coordinate cross-functional activities to ensure robust problem-solving and ISO 9001 compliance.

The ideal candidate has a degree in engineering, minimum five years of project or technical leadership experience, and a proven track record in supplier audits and improvements.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience with projects or technical leadership exposure.
• Degree in Engineering or equivalent skill.
• Experience leading supplier audits and driving supplier improvements.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and quality management systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage large data in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
• Experience with machining and assembly processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead, guide, and prioritize daily activities of Supplier Quality Engineers to ensure consistent execution of supplier quality processes.
• Drive a “Zero Defects” mindset across the supply base and within the Supplier Quality team.
• Review and validate supplier quality issues, non-conformances, and defect trends; ensure containment, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Lead supplier problem-solving using structured methods (8D, 5 Why, 3x5 Why) and ensure timely closure.
• Coordinate supplier audits, evaluations, and follow-up actions; track audit findings with evidence.
• Monitor supplier quality performance metrics (DPPM, audit scores, CAPA closure, delivery quality) and drive improvements via supplier reviews.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain Management to review performance, identify risks, and apply escalation as needed.
• Support qualification of new suppliers and materials in line with qualification processes.
• Prepare and review supplier quality reports, presentations, and improvement plans for management review.
• Ensure ISO 9001:2015 compliance across supplier activities.
• Coach and develop Supplier Quality Engineers through on-the-job guidance and knowledge sharing.

We are looking for a Supplier Quality Team Leaderto join our team. In this role, you will contribute to driving supplier quality excellence, leading supplier improvement initiatives, and ensuring robust problem‑solving and quality compliance across the supply base.

Impact You Will Make

• Lead and oversee supplier problem‑solving activities using structured methodologies (8D, 5 Why, 3x5 Why), ensuring timely and effective closure.
• Coordinate supplier audits, evaluations, and follow‑up actions; ensure audit findings are tracked and closed with evidence.
• Monitor supplier quality performance metrics (DPPM, audit scores, CAPA closure, delivery quality) and drive improvement actions through regular supplier reviews.
• Work closely with Supply Chain Management to ensure supplier performance is reviewed, risks are identified, and escalation is applied where necessary.
• Support qualification of new suppliers and materials in alignment with supplier qualification processes.
• Prepare and review supplier quality reports, presentations, and improvement plans for management review.
• Ensure compliance with Quality Management System (ISO 9001) requirements in all supplier quality activities.
• Coach and develop Supplier Quality Engineers through on‑the‑job guidance, technical support, and knowledge sharing.
• Maintain proactive communication with management, cross‑functional teams, and suppliers.
• Protect all intellectual property of the customer and company.
• Perform other ad‑hoc assignments according to business needs.

Our Ideal Candidate

Preferably a Degree in Engineering or equivalent skill with minimum of 5 years of experience with projects or technical leadership exposure.

Able to manage a high amount of data in a fast-paced and multicultural and cross-functional working environment.

Proven track record in supplier improvement programs and driving sustainable corrective actions.

Hands‑on experience leading supplier audits and resolving both technical and systemic quality issues.

Familiarity with industrial processes such as machining, surface treatment, heat treatment, sheet metal fabrication, module assembly, and testing.

Skills/ Technical Requirements

Strong technical knowledge in machining and assembly processes.

Solid understanding of ISO 9001:2015 requirements and implementation.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills (5 Why, 8D, Pareto, Fault Tree Analysis, DMAIC).

Data driven mindset with ability to interpret and present quality performance metrics.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage suppliers and cross functional stakeholders.

Proficient in MS Office applications.

Knowledge of Automotive Core Tools (FMEA, SPC, MSA, PPAP, APQP) is an added advantage.

Experience or working knowledge in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies is preferred; Green Belt certification is an advantage.
