Job summary

Columbia Asia Hospital – Batu Kawan in Penang, Malaysia is seeking a Registered Nurse with ICU/critical care experience to join the Intensive Care Unit team. Responsibilities

• Perform ICU nursing duties: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
• Monitor life support and meds; observe vitals and responses.
• Maintain a safe environment for high-monitoring patients.
• Evaluate patient progress closely.
• Update doctors and follow care instructions.
• Identify deterioration and alert seniors immediately.
• Begin treatments and adjust doses as ordered.
• Respond to emergencies and summon doctors.
• Care for patients during recovery in ICU; provide clear guidance.
• Communicate effectively with staff, patients and relatives.
• Educate family about patient care.
• Foster good relations with other departments and visitors.
• Record and charge items used for patients.
• Ensure correct equipment usage and assist training.
• Adhere to Infection Prevention policy and maintain high standards.
• Understand risk management impact on nursing role.
• Complete paperwork before transferring a patient.
• Supervise cleanliness of assigned area or ward.
• Check DDA and controlled drugs, emergency trolley, portable oxygen.
• Inventory surgical items and equipment weekly.
• Maintain patient safety and prevent incidents.
• Report incidents to Nurse Manager/Supervisor.

Reporting To: Nurse Manager- Intensive Care Unit

Position Summary:

Evaluate the patient's conditions, administer treatment, and provide constant support during recovery.

Monitor all patient care and treatment, maintaining high standards and quality at all times.

Work as part of a team to provide a safe, effective, efficient care environment for patients, relatives and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Carry out a full range of a staff nurse duties, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient's condition and care.

2. Monitor life support equipment (e.g ventilator), administer medication and observe patient's vital signs and reactions to medical procedure.

3. Maintain a safe environment when caring for patients, including those patients requiring frequent levels of monitoring.

4. Evaluate and monitor the patient's progress closely.

5. Update doctors about the patient's progress and follow precise instructions about patient care.

6. Identify sudden or subtle changes in a patient's medical condition. Prioritize nursing care, recognize deterioration in a patient's condition and alert Charge Nurse Nurse Manager and attending medical staff immediately.

7. Begin treatment and monitor doses as ordered by doctors.

8. Respond to a medical emergency and alert the appropriate doctors.

9. Care for patient needs throughout their recovery in the ICU unit. Be able to provide clear directions and guidance for procedures and routines.

10. Use effective communication, written and verbal with all levels of staff including the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives.

11. Provide support and education to the patient's family, answer questions appropriately.

12. Fosters good relationships with other departments, the multidisciplinary team and visitors to the

unit. Helps to achieve and maintain morale for both staff and patients.

13. Ensure that all items used for the patients inclusive of medications, surgical supplies are duly recorded and charged.

14.Ensure correct usage of equipment and assist in the training of others as required.

15. Adhere to the Infection Prevention, Control policy, and maintain high standards at all times.

16. Understand how risk management impacts nurses role.

17. Complete all necessary paperwork before transferring a patient.

18. Supervise the cleanliness of assigned area or the ward.

19. Check DDA and controlled drugs, emergency trolley, portable oxygen for each shift.

20. Carry out inventory on surgical items and equipment for each week.

21. Maintain patient's safety by taking preventive measures against accidents and incidents.

22. Responsible to report to Nurse Managers/ Supervisor of any incidents.

Education and Requirements:

Registered Nurse with at least minimum 3 years' experience in ICU/ Critical Care Unit.

Preferably to have a Post-basic Certificate in Intensive Care/Critical Carenursing.

Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate

Valid annual practicing certificate.

Able to communicate well in both written and spoken English language and Bahasa Malaysia.
