Job summary

Columbia Asia Batu Kawan is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse/Midwife to provide professional nursing care in the Labor Room and maternity ward. You will perform midwifery procedures, monitor labor progress, and support both mother and infant with education and care.

The role involves admitting patients, recording histories, and coordinating with obstetricians during labor, cesarean sections, and postnatal care, while maintaining documentation and ensuring infection control standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Admit patient and record particulars in the labor room register.

• Develop plan of care and initiate fetal heart monitoring.
• Assist obstetrician in labor and delivery procedures and manage Pitocin as ordered.
• Provide pain management and assist with breathing exercises.
• Document nursing care on charts and Hospital Information System.
• Prepare patient for Cesarean section following written procedure.
• Provide post-delivery care and patient education for mother and infant.
• Participate in obstetric and nursery staff training and SOP reviews.

Job description

Position Summary:

Provide professional nursing care for patients within the Labor Room and maternity ward according to established standards.

Perform midwifery techniques as in accordance to Midwife Act. Provide obstetric care to labor patient including maternal and fetal monitoring.

Take part in the setting up of parent craft classes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Admit patient and record particulars in the labor room register.

Perform admitting assessment and review patient history.

Take vital signs i.e. pulse, BP, temperature and fetal heart beat and weigh patients.

Develop plan of care.

Initiate fetal heart monitor.

Carry out abdominal palpation to determine the fundus level, position and presentation of fetus on the progress of patient.

Perform vaginal examination, interpret fetal heart monitor and determine frequency duration and intensity of contractions.

Monitor progress of laboring mother, interpret fetal heart monitor and notify obstetrician when appropriate for progress or problems.

Assist mother with breathing exercises, pain management and administer pain medications as ordered.

Assist obstetrician in administering care during labor, such as with initiation of Pitocin inductions and monitor progress of labor. Mix IV Pitocin drips, adjust flow rate or pump according to Obstetrician's orders. Be alert for abnormalities.

Assist anesthesia with the administration of spinal or epidural anesthetic.

Document nursing care properly on charts, forms and Hospital Information System.

Perform immediate post delivery care of mother and infant as per standard operation procedure.

Perform post partum care and provide patient education to mother: check lochia, episiotomy and fundus, provide instruction in child care, breast feedings and self care to mother, monitor vital signs per policy, report problems to obstetrician.

Check complete placenta after delivery and inform the obstetrician. Ensure the Obstetrician check the placenta for manual removal of placenta procedure.

Write a proper report after the delivery

Perform nursery care on infant and report observations to the pediatrician.

* Operate required equipment (radiant warmer, newborn monitor, etc).

* Monitor infants and vital signs.

* Coordinate stabilization and transfer of unstable infants.

* Perform or assist with all feedings (breast/ nipple feeding).

* Assess gestational age, give bath, perform hearing screening and any other care.

19. Prepare patient for Cesarean Section following written procedure.

20. Provide emotional support to mother (patient).

21. Ensure proper consents and pre-operative assessment is obtained.

22. Send and receive patient from OR.

23. Ensure proper documentation is carried out on procedure performed.

24. Ensure all consumables used are recorded and charged.

25. Adhere to principles of infection control in obstetric (OB) care.

26. Display knowledge of specialized OB equipment instruments and procedures.

27. Check that all equipment are in working order.

28. Stock OB department, order supplies, request maintenance/ ancillary support.

29. Participate in in-service and continue education specialized for OB/ nursery.

30. Assist in reviewing SOPs related to OB care.

31. Participate in the orientation/induction of new staff.

32. Assist the Nurse Manager in the management of Labor room.

33. Participate in teaching sessions of ante-natal / postnatal classes.

34. Perform any other duties as assigned or directed.

Education and Requirements:

State Registered Nurse.

State Registered Midwife.

Minimum 2 years experience.

License to practice as a Staff Midwife.

Valid annual practicing certificate.
