Job summary

ams OSRAM in Bayan Lepas, Penang, Malaysia, seeks a Staff Engineer for Product Engineering Operations (VCSEL). You will manage the product portfolio lifecycle, coordinate across teams, and drive yield/test improvements while aligning with cost and quality goals.

The role requires 2–3 years in semiconductor product engineering or related fields, strong English, and hands-on experience with manufacturing and laser technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physics, Opto-electronics, or related technical field.
• Master's degree in the relevant field is a plus.
• 2–3 years in semiconductor product engineering, yield engineering, or testing (VCSEL or laser experience preferred).
• Solid understanding of semiconductor lasers, manufacturing processes, and VCSEL technology.
• Strong analytical and fact-based decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Proficiency in Six Sigma problem-solving and Lean Manufacturing.
• Experience in product qualifications, quality standards, and failure analysis.
• Knowledge of product routings, workflows, and development processes.
• Strong scripting/programming skills.
• Project management experience and ability to work cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

• Manage the entire product portfolio throughout its lifecycle, ensuring performance, quality and cost objectives.
• Serve as the central point of contact for all product-related matters, providing clear communication and coordination across teams.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield and test processes to optimize costs and enhance product efficiency.
• Conduct statistical analysis of characterization and test data to identify cost drivers and implement yield improvement programs.
• Collaborate with project teams during development to ensure a smooth transition to mass production.
• Support the quality assurance team with RMA handling and failure analysis.
• Act as the technical interface for internal stakeholders and external customers, delivering expert guidance.
• Ensure fabrication process modifications comply with product performance and reliability requirements.
• Monitor production and feedback relevant issues to ensure DFM.

Job Requirements

• 2–3 years of experience in semiconductor product engineering, yield engineering, or testing (VCSEL or laser experience preferred).
• Solid understanding of semiconductor lasers, manufacturing processes, and applications (ideally in VCSEL technology).
• Strong analytical and fact-based decision-making skills.
