Job summary

ams OSRAM is seeking a Staff Engineer for Product Engineering Operations (VCSEL) in Penang, Malaysia. You will own the VCSEL product lifecycle from development to mass production, ensuring performance, yield, COGS and quality targets are met.

You’ll interface across internal teams and customers, driving cost- and yield-optimization through data-driven CI programs. The role requires 2–3 years in semiconductor product engineering or yield/testing, strong English communication, and Six Sigma/Lean

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Opto-electronics or related field.
• 2–3 years in semiconductor product engineering, yield engineering or testing (VCSEL/laser preferred).
• Solid understanding of semiconductor lasers, manufacturing processes and VCSEL applications.
• Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Six Sigma problem solving and Lean Manufacturing proficiency.
• Experience in product qualifications, quality standards and failure analysis.
• Knowledge of product routings, workflows and development processes.
• Project management experience and cross-functional collaboration.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with proactive, holistic problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Assume VCSEL product ownership from development through production lifecycle management.
• Ensure product performance, yield, COGS and quality to meet business objectives.
• Act as technical interface between internal teams and business unit.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield and test processes to optimize costs.
• Conduct statistical analysis of characterization and test data to identify cost drivers.
• Collaborate with project teams during development for smooth transition to mass production.
• Support quality assurance with RMA handling and failure analysis.
• Act as technical interface for internal stakeholders and external customers.
